So...kind of a weird question but the air condition in my new truck sucks so far. Granted, I live in Virginia and it's about 100 degrees out today and my truck is black with leather but still.... I can drive around for like 20 minutes and the air conditioning just never seems to spit out air that is cold enough. It moves air...just not cold air. I'd describe it as cool at best. It's not enough to cool off the cabin though. I'm thinking about taking my digital meat thermometer down there and getting a reading so I can provide more info. My girlfriend drives a 2006 Saturn and when you crank on the ac, you can practically see your breath. It gets cold! I don't know what the deal is with this truck so far. This is my only problem. Everything else is awesome. I don't wanna take it to the dealer and sound like an idiot with my trivial complaint but at the same time, I don't wanna sweat when I have the air on for all shes worth. I don't know if it matters but I have 490 miles on the truck so far. I don't think this is a break in issue but I'm open to advice and thoughts. Let me know. Thanks.

Been ice cold since day one. Take it to the stealership, its under warranty because it has problems. My truck is 4 months old and it will cool it down in about 3 minutes or less and also I live in Central VA. Hot and Humid really sucks!!!

It's about 90 sunny and humid here in PA today...had my AC on with fan speed set at 3 clicks from off and was very confortable. I do usually have to crank mine on max AC for maybe 5 min..then I can cut WAY back and it will still maintain temp well. Get it checked out...

Temperature

I just used my handy dandy digital meat thermometer which seems to be pretty accurate as far as chicken is concerned so...

I sat in my truck in a covered parking garage with the ac on high for 15 minutes exactly. The coldest I could measure air coming out was at 68* when holding the thermometer right in front of the vent. When I head the thermometer by the steering wheel the ambient temperature never got below 85* in the truck. That's with max ac on high for 15 minutes. I could probably drive with the windows down and have it cooler in the cabin.

The only thing I haven't checked is, under the hood. I assume all my fluid levels are good. I bought a new car so I didn't have to spend time under the hood. I just wanna make sure I've explored this a little before I call the dealer with this problem. Any other advice?

My 05 did the very same thing shortly after I got it. Took it to the nearest dealer and they tested it. It was low on freon. So they put more in and ran it for a while to check for leaks. It held the pressure good and they put some dye in so if it leaked they could find it. That was 3 or 4 years ago. Cool very good ever since.

There are specific performance parameters that the AC system is supposed to meet.

If it was 100 degrees in Virginia, in the shade, with say, 60% humidity, on recirculate, been running for 10 minutes on idle, your vent discharge temperature should be about 80 degrees.

Attached is the AC performance chart for the 2005 year model (mine).

It isn't malfunctioning just because it isn't putting out 40 degree air - check the service manual and do the AC test for yourself (attached).

It should be 64 degrees. With windows open. All closed up, vents should easily hit 40ish in 10 minutes v

Not according to the chart posted above. I don't think you realize what 40 degree air feels like. 20 degrees cooler than the relative temperature will feel very cold. Now the OP's truck sounds like it has a problem, and he should definitely get it checked out.

Umm. I actually do. See, I'm a tech. Have been for 2 years Now. I also live in northern California, it's consistently over 100 here. To check a/c systems. The accepted way is to put a thermometer in a vent, crank it full blast and wait for the temp to hit the 40s.

In Nissans test they are leaving the windows open, so it's always trying to cool hot air. Even then, vent temp should be high 60s.

I dropped the truck off at the dealer this morning. It's been 6 hours with no word yet. I'm anxious to see what they say. Will update when I have more info.....
they are most likely going to recharge the ac and then they will try and stroke you for money lol

but thats what i think the issue is. it just needs more "cool' so to speak ahaha

Talked to the dealer who said I have a bad "thermistor". Apparently the "thermistor" keeps freezing up which shuts down my ac as a result. They are ordering the new parts needed so it looks like it's all good. He said this was the first time he has heard of a 2010 having this problem. Thanks for all the posts. I'm happy this is covered by the warranty and to find out I'm not crazy.

^^ it's a little doohicky that is a switch when it reaches a certain temperature. there is one on the evap coil to tell the compressor when to cycle on and off... thus keeping you consistently cool and ensuring the coil does not freeze.

Ok -- So I took my truck to the dealership and told them of the "thermistor" They said that it was a known issue on the 2005-2007's but not the 2010's. 4 hrs later they called and said they could not replicate the symptoms. Figures the day I took it in it was only 78 degrees and low humidity. I've got to take it back in one of those 95 degree days with high humidity to get it fixed. Dealership said they called the Nissan techs and Nissan is not willing to put any money/parts into it until they verify it's not working properly.

My 07 did the same thing, and my 10 is pretty much the same. I think I will make a trip to the dealer.
