Getting out scratch in paint, need help!

1011 Views 6 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  paris1
My dumb a$$ cousin scratched my door with the knife handle in his back pocket. I know this is a crappy cell phone pic, but can any tell if it's fixable, or would the panel need to be repainted. It feels pretty deep. If fixable, what should I do first. It's about 5" long.

Thanks!

my first reaction would be to try and wax the area. but since you said it is quite deep there is only one way to make the are somewhat blend in with the rest of the panel;

touch-up paint (go for the dealer/factory ones)
fine (1500 grit) sandpaper
paint polish

wash area thoroughly
apply thin coats of touch up paint; less is better keep applying until the void is filled
mask off the area
sand just the area touched up and a little of the surounding
polish to restore shine

ofcourse if you haven't done anything like tihs before it would be a super duper idea to try on something else first or somewhere inconspicous

That system looks really impressive.
Have you used it Red?

Used it after the first winter I had the truck to get rid of the stone chips from the pea gravel the road crews use. Worked fantastic. I just ordered another kit three days ago to take care of a nasty scrath on my tailgate, thanks to some a-hole at homedepot the other day
Do they say how long after until you can wax your vehicle?
My truck was keyed a month into owning it.
My DA and compound did a really good job of getting most of the damage out but some of it was just too deep.
Plus I have the normal scrape/chip here and there.
Including the nice chunk outa the passenger door where somebody was too fking stupid not to hit my door with their door.
I swear if I ever see somebody do that to either of our vehicles I will be in jail that day.
Might have to look into this and try it in the spring.

This stuff is intended for chips. I don't think it will work very well on scratches.
