Do you guys fallow the service book or what do you do?

I do not have a lot of mechanical knowledge, however I do the usual. Synthetic oil every six thousand, premium gas, synthetic tranny flush at 138,000km. Timing belt, water pump and a few others. My bill for the service at 138,000km was about 1700.00 canadian "ouch I know... I think I was ripped off..." Changed plugs and wires at about 168,000km.

2002 frontier, crew cab, SC, auto trans, 4x4... 171,000 KM

Anyone have any advice? I love my truck and want it to last a long time!

Thanks everyone,

Andrew

Maybe check your 4WD system. Hubs, CV's...the whole deal. Fuel filter would be a good thing to change if you haven't already. Aftermarket shocks are always a plus after putting 171,000KM on stock shocks.

You clean the battery terminals to get off any dirt, corrosion or whatever else is on there to insure you get a good connection. I say go ahead and change your diff fluids, front and back, with synthetic oil...it can't hurt anything.

A loose or rusty ground could cause intermittant problems. Found a couple of bad ones on my truck when it was new. You can't always see corosion on the battery terminals, and the grease (I use vaseline) keeps the oxygen out, thus slowing down the corosion. I do mine every couple of years.

Just the rear end or the front diff too?
I had a first gen tacoma that i went ahead and changed the front diff fluid just short of 180,000miles and it still looked quite new and i was in 4wd a lot. The rear end was really bad though. I don't believe either had ever been changed
