I read up on some site that the gear ratio for our trucks are:
2005-2007 King Cab M/T 2.5L
C200
4.083

2005-2007 King Cab A/T 2.5L
C200
3.692

My question is, if I want to to put less stress on the drivetrain with 33's should I go with a larger or smaller gear ratio. Has anyone changed their gear on their truck?

answer is : bigger

I didn't see anyone actually answer. A bigger gear or more teeth, will spin faster but put less stress. A smaller or less teeth will spin slower and have more stress.
here are the gears on the XE's

If your going to be putting 33's on, you'll want the manual 4.083 ratio. For an auto it will be a decent upgrade, if your a manual already....your kinda screwed. You want the lower (higher numerically) gear ratio for bigger tires

maybe but

Maybe, but many people have to use their truck for commute as well and traffic here in SO CA is not something I want to do with a clutch.

Non the less here is the answer for us guys that do have the auto trani

First off the rear ends are all dana 44's and the gears that came with the auto use the small carrier so:

If you want to move in to the bigger gears you can get when you need from this place or shop around.
You will need the larger carrier @ $170
plus the spider gear set and pick the gear size you want for $215

I'm looking at the 4.10, 4.27, or 4.56 need to get some engineer numbers on these first though.

heads up the manual trans guys already have the bigger carrier and can just buy a set of spider gears..

^^^^^^^yeah just because they have gears in the link posted does not mean they will work for our dana44 and most likely they wont because of the hybrid thing and the locker has gears machined down to make fit for locker. the manual se still has dana44 with 3.69-this is for vq40.
but i see you 4 bangers have dana 4.10 and c200 3.69, if i was manual with 4.10 id never switch to higher 3.69s especially if putting 33's on. if i was SE manual vq40(without locker)id be looking into to seeing if those 4.10s from 4banger will fit.

dropping to 3.69's would give you better mpg's but then lack of power response due to increased tire size-you feel like you lost power dropping to a higher gear. and dont take this the wrong way but the only reason your 4banger gets out of the way of itself, considering weight of these trucks, is the gearing it has.
