Here's a front tube bumper which I made for my 1st gen. This particular bumper was designed to fit a removable Winch behind the Nissan logo plate (or in the rear hitch receiver).
Started with a wooden template to mock it up, and tubing was bent with a harbor freight pipe bender (not as straight forward as you might imagine) and a cutoff wheel/welding deal trick for the sharper bends. A couple tips I've heard are to do little micro bends a half inch apart, or to fill the tube with sand before bending it.
3/8" plates for the braces, 1/4" steel for the winch plate material, 1.5" .200 wall tubing and then 3/16" plates for the winch cover and little side pieces.
Added some LED fogs and spot beams, hooked them up to the DRL and High Beams, and it makes a huge difference at night.
Full bumper write-up is available on 1st Gen Nissan Frontier Off-road Custom Front Tube Bumper - Four x Fab
