I picked up a new-to-me 2014 Frontier last night, and I'm liking it a lot. I sold my Mini Cooper S- it was a blast to drive but I really needed a truck.

I'll be researching the clock spring issue- my cruise controls work, but the radio and BT controls do not, so I'm trying to get a feel for how extensive the work will be to swap that part, and where everyone is buying that part- since the OEM would presumably fail again pretty quickly.

A google search showed Nissan owners of all models having the same exact problem so I'm hoping someone is selling a part that's more robust and maybe cheaper. Ebay shows the part from $20 to $150.

Is anything stereo-wise aftermarket?

The truck is new to me but I looked at another, same year same model, and they both have the same stereo.
It's a little strange because when I search Frontier forums on the clock spring/steering wheel button issues, very little comes up, but if I google it, loads of Nissan issues are returned.

Some people report that their radio control works if they turn the wheel slightly left or right, but mine does nothing.
The BT/phone controls have no effect, but the cruise buttons work fine, and these are the same symptoms I read about over and over in Frontiers and many other Nissan models.

It's this one. My AC unit has a third knob not shown here, but the stereo is the same.

I called the local Nissan dealer and they wanted $228 for the part. I can get it on ebay for $95 so I'm thinking that's the route I'm gonna go. <edit> I just ordered it.

I was gonna I go home and check all the fuses with a meter until I looked at a fuse box diagram and realized there's no fuse or fuses that could only take out those buttons while the stereo still works fine.

So I changed the clock spring. Steering wheel radio buttons still don't work, but now I have an annoying yellow warning light in the gauges. I read all the posts about driving straight ahead and not turning the steering wheel, but none of that worked, and I tried it a zillion times.
Then I replaced the steering wheel button assembly. Now I'm like $250 into this, and the buttons still don't work.
So I have ordered a new radio and assorted connection cables. It'll all be in this week.

In other news, I have a mildly used clock spring and steering wheel button set for sale.

these issues must be why Nissan changed the whole stereo/bluetooth setup in 2015 or 2016. IIRC your bluetooth module is under a front seat? i'd start there and make sure connections are good...

Found it, under the front passenger seat. It has several connectors and they're all plugged in securely.
But that's just BT.... my steering wheel buttons for the radio volume don't work either.

Basically the right side works fine for cruise, and the left side doesn't do anything at all= not BT or radio.
