I got my exhaust done this week...Flowmaster with 3" pipe and a K&N filter...What a difference it makes on the bottom end and it sounds great! Its hard to have a 'soft' foot on the gas.

did you dyno your truck before and after the exhaust install? that piping seems a little big. i'm not one to trust the seat o' the pants dyno. seems that large of a diameter will decrease low end torque

I was thinking custom 2.5" mandrel bent piping from the cat back and a less restrictive y-pipe going into 50 series suv flowmaster muffler. again 2.5" going out to a 3" tip

this is the recommendation i got from several exhaust techs for this engine and vehicle.

No dyno but i can tell you there is a huge difference in the bottom end. The place i went to has been doing custom exhaust for over 25 years and this is what they reccomended. I'm going to tow my trailer in a week or so and then we will see if it improves towing.

Curley,

Did you get 3" pipes from the CATs back, to include a new "Y" pipe, or just 3" from the Muffler back?

SD,

I was thinking of this set-up as well, but I was leaning more towards 2.25" pipes from the CATs to the "Y" and then 2.5" from there back. The MagnaFlow web site recommends not going more than 1/4" to 1/2" larger than stock, and when I measured the stock pipes they looked to be 2" from the CATs to the "Y" and then 2.25" from there back. I figured a 1/4" increase in size with a free flowing "Y" and muffler would increase flow, but not to the point it would degrade low end performance. The Banks system I had was 3" from the CATs back, and I noticed a loss of low end with that system. What kind of estimates have you been getting on the system you're looking at? Thanks...
