So I just purchased a 2017 SV V6 and I was reading through the manual and it doesn't say anything about a break in oil change, it just says the first oil change is at 5k miles. Doesn't that seem a little long? Never owned a new truck before only motorcycles and for motorcycles your first break in oil change is at 600 miles.

I do mine at about 1,500 whenever I buy a new vehicle. That is just my personal preference. I am a little OCD when it come to fluid changes. I did a drain and fill on most fluids in my '12 Frontier at about 5,000mi. The only surprise I had doing this was the fluid in the Transfer Case. It was filthy and looked like it had about 100k on it. lol.

Millions upon millions of vehicles do fine following the owners manual recommendation and waiting until the first recommended oil change interval.

That being said, the internet is littered with plenty of opinions based on "feelings" and other non sense about "cheap insurance" to change early.

I did my first oil change at 1K.

Not sure what they put in the T-case from the factory. I think they collect used oil from the recycle and put it in the T-case. Mine came out super black when I changed it out at 30K. Shocked me. Did it again at 40K cause I was nervous that our t-cases were hard on the fluid, but came out super clean. Used a syn AFT IIRC. Have not touched it since. currently at 80
