So I did my first oil change. I loosened the filter with a wrench and when I reached in to remove the oil filter by hand this fell out. I can't see where it came from. It has foam in it and it was filled with oil.

It looks like a cap of some sort. I removed some of the splash panel. To look for something that was uncovered but no luck. Nothing is leaking.

Anyone have any ideas?

Looks like a plastic cap designed to protect something while in shipment.

Looks like the vent cap from the back of a head light.

Yes. That looks exactly like it. I didn't look behind the headlights. I will check that. I was focused on fittings and lines under the truck since it fell out through the oil filter hole. Makes sense that it could fallen through the engine bay.

Just checked and that is exactly what it is. The passenger side headlight is missing that cover. I was concerned it was a vent cover for some emission equipment or the trans.

Good thing it wasn't a cap in the oil filter hole that they forgot to remove haha

No problem. I had found mine in the engine bay at one point too.

I learned something new here today, 5 Frontiers and a Pathfinder and still never saw one of those caps. Great bunch of Frontier owners here.

I have that same cap sitting on my workbench. I did not know what it was or where it came from. I found it in the engine area.
