First Gen Instrument Lighting Modification

If anyone is interested, I did a LED conversion on my Instrument Cluster this weekend.

Very nice! Would you say they are as bright as the old lighting? Any problems with the dimmer?

It is actually better than the stock lights, which when the dimmer fails, stay full bright. That is really good for wearing out your eyes at night/early morning.

My dimmer failed a couple months ago, so when I went to red this weekend, it made it a lot better.
I can't test the dimmer, but these are plenty bright while being very easy on the eyes...

how did you get it out of the dash?

Removal:

1. Remover the steering column cover (5 screws)
2. Remove The lower dash Trim (the one at your knees with the E-brake handle and the Fuse panel cover (2 screws)
3. Remove the Black trim around the gauge cluster (4 screws)
4. Remove the Gauge Cluster (4 screws)
5. Unplug the Cluster connections (3 plugs on my model)

Installation:

Exact opposite of above

so does the 03's have leds or do they have 194 bulbs you can just replace?

Would like to change the lighting on my 2001 SE from amber to blue....

Maybe 20 minutes the first time...

I've had it out before, so I was out in 10 minutes or less, reinstalled in about 10 minutes...

Just take your time, keep track of your screws (the steering column screws are different from the rest of the trim screws), and when all else fails, consult the FSM.

It isn't difficult.

Looks nice! From the pictures it looks like the blue portion of the temperature control doesn't light up well... is that the case, or just an illusion with the camera?

Nope, The photos don't lie.

The Blue doesn't light up much, if any, at all.
