I'm not sure what is going on with my fuel and temp gauges so I'll lay out some info in the hopes that someone knows something.

1998 King Cab Frontier 260K kms(162K miles).
The fuel and temp gauges are intermittent.
I have replaced - battery, alt, and ignition switch.

Sometimes they work on start up sometimes not. When they do work one or the other will drop out. The wipers sometimes jump a little when switching off the ignition. I'm not 100% sure that there was something to do with the ignition switch.
I have inspected/cleaned all of the cluster connectors. Everything else seems fine - lights, speedo, tach. It's just those two gauges that aren't working.

I have a Haynes manual but the schematic is a bit confusing. It almost looks like the common hot for all of this goes direct to ground at one point. Maybe a typo?

Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Ian

After snooping around a lot I think I found a "solution".

I'll post if it works.

Check all the connections behind cluster with a fluke. Make sure there's no short first. Then see if the sender is sending a signal to the gauge.

BTW i have a complete cluster off my 99 frontier for sale.
