Factory Moonroof in SE V6 ????

19859 Views 103 Replies 27 Participants Last post by  tgarner444
On February 2, 2010, I ordered a 2010 Crew Cab SE V6 6-Speed with the value package. I requested the factory moonroof but was just recently advised by my dealership that the factory will not install it. This didn’t make sense to me since the Nissan website lets you build the vehicle online with the moonroof. I called corporate (1-800 Nissan 3) and they also stated that they show the moonroof is available. Since the factory moonroof is $700 and after market is $1500, can anyone shed any light on this. What should I do? (Truck on order)
Thanks in advance,

when I bought my SE you had to have the power package to get the moon roof.. I think they are installed at the factory not at the dealer.
X2 on that, it is a factory installed option. The are wanting you to go after market for some reason. I would tell them that you are going to cancel your order if they keep jerking you around.
Just in case I was not clear in my last post, I did order the power package, called "value package" which inculdes power windows, door locks, cruise control, ect. Drove down to the dealer today but the salesman held her ground. They are still advising that the factory is not installing the moonroof. However, I did not see anything in writting on this and they did not provide me with a VIN number on my ordered truck.
I had problems getting the options I want the dealer told me i could not get a 6-speed in california. so I bought mine form CarsDirect.com -- America's #1 way to buy cars online!
They probably forgot to put it in the factory order and are prepreping you for the "treatment".

The vin number isn't available for about 5-6 weeks later.
I'm not looking to get you going but as I wrote in the other thread Nissan just built my truck with the same equiptment as you want and no one said anything such thing as you're being told.
Where are you located? Call corporate back and have them call the dealership on your behalf and see what they say then. Your sales person needs to have a reason other than they don't do it now. Ask her why they just built mine for me.

Sorry to hear you might be buying a truck that is not fully going to satisfy you. Cant imagine them not giving you what you want except the fact that SE with a factory sunroof is rare. I found my 08 SE online 800 miles from where i lived, but i knew I didnt want the truck without a sunroof, so i went and got it and pleased that i made the effort to get just what i wanted. Factory sunroof added nissan leather package, and i am a very happy frontier driver. You deserve to be happy too. Maybe on your own try to find one somewhere and try to work some type of dealer trade for the one you want, you take theres, and let the new one get shipped to them.
There are good net methods to find new inventory all over the usa, search for what you want. I found a dealer that found one for me, but he would not tell me where it was, but i got some hints as to which direction it was from him, so i got online and searched each dealership in a certain radius of where the guy was to do the dealer trade. After he told me he found one for me, other dealer would not do a dealer trade with him, so i went and found it on my own and bought from the dealership who had it. Sorry for rambling on, point is try hard to get what you want before you take delivery.

After market roof is not as good, I have installed them. I would install them in customer's but not my own ride. If they leak or make noise in the wind it becomes a real issue as to who's responsibility it is is to fix it. The quality is not as good as OEM even though the price is more. This is because laybour is a lot more to do it custom insted of punching it out on the assembly line at the factory.

If you do get aftermarket get a good one.
I say find a new dealer!

If you can't order the exact truck you want, find one sitting on a lot used or new that's EXACTLY what you want...
Everyone,
Thanks for your responses. Unfortunately, I did give the dealer a $1000.00 deposit to order the truck. Approximately 1 ½ weeks later, they then advised me no go on the moonroof. On Saturday, 02/27/10, I spoke to corporate again and they advised me that I need to speak with their Consumer Affairs Division. Of course, they only work Mon-Fri. On Monday, I am planning on calling them and throwing the situation in their lap like Clint suggested. I will keep everyone updated.

Did they specify factory build or are they trying to locate one and realized there are none built that way? I know of only one more truck like mine and it's in California. If you want an auto trans thats another story.

Clint
Do you have paperwork from the dealer that specifies the factory moonroof?
What does your contract say about canceling your truck order? Did you ask the dealer what options you needed to add to get the moonroof? Make a copy of your online build sheet before Nissan makes the correction.
I was not told to buy any one thing to get another thing. The only item that was a no go was I wanted a roof rack and they said no.

Clint
I forgot to mention it was a no because it had to be a Pro-4X to get the rack. I was hoping because I special ordered it they'd look the other way and say yes. They would override the rules.
Years ago Chevrolet had COPO order cars, those were "Central Office Production Orders" and they'd put a 454 (Nova - Camaro) in a car that never had it as a possible option or other non tradition combinations.

Clint
Kinda off topic, but when you custom order a truck through a dealer I assume you lose some of the noegotiation room vs something that already exists on their lot?
Upon ordering the truck, I brought them the online printout of what I wanted. The dealership asked me for a deposit of $1000.00 dollars that I gladly gave. The funny thing is, and I know that’s my bad, I never officially got a written contract. I’m not quite sure how this will all play out or will affect corporate in helping me. Then again, since there is really no written contract, I may be able to cancel the order easier too. On a side note, there was no misunderstanding on the options that I wanted and the dealer made a copy of my online vehicle build printout.

00 Frontier,

I would assume you are correct. However, I didn’t even really get into pricing because I wanted the truck and was prepared to pay almost sticker. This situation however, puts a nasty sting on it. (Principle of it)

Where do you live? Until you take possesion of the car, it isn't legally yours. Unless you signed something that says non refundable deposit, tell them to go fly a kite. It is a rare option, but it is a factory option none the less. Spell it out for them. Factory sunroof or give me back the deposit/cancel the check.

+ 1 on that, Get the sunroof. I regret eveyday that I didn't have my dealer go get a truck with one from another state, for not that much more, (for more that one reason in my case). Some Nissan dealers need to get their head out of their arse, and actually help a customer. Fight for your right for a factory sunroof! Good luck!
i'd be walking away from that dealer. i hate it when peeople want to force you into something because they want to take the easy way out. make them work for your dough
