Alright guys Im getting ready to get the doug thorley header for my 4 cylinder,
installing my custom CAI, and I already have a flowmaster 40 with a turn down. My question is, I was probably going to get all my piping bumped up to 2.25" from the cat back, and I was wondering what that thing is in that pipe section that looks a stainless steel braided line or something? Im pretty sure it is a flex pipe or something like that. After I install all this other stuff Im going back to the exhaust shop. Im gonna have them go from the cat back with the 2.25" and reuse the flowmaster 40. Im just wondering, do I need them to reuse that flex pipe thing in the new piping?

Edit: Hey guys I got another question too. I know with the long tube headers installed I probably wont be able to bypass the CEL. I guess Ill just be stuck with the check engine light. But Im worried now, is it true that when your check engine light comes on the truck goes into like a limp mode with reduced performance?

The CEL is easy to fix. Get a MIL eliminator, and you put it on the O2 sensor. What it does is sends the correct voltage to the ECM to make it think there's nothing wrong. That way if you do have something that is worthy of a CEL you will actually have your CEL come on appropriately.

you should have a flex pipe after the headers to allow the motor to move on the mount with out putting stress on the rest of your exhaust (its one of the main caused of manifold cracks)

Thanks guys. When i get the exhaust done im definitely going to get them to keep the flex pipe. And I do want to try to keep the CEL off so I know when theres a real problem. Ive seen some things about wiring up the sensor somehow, but it didnt look easy to switch back to stock for smog. I also saw something that like screws on to the o2 sensor to like take it out of the direct exhaust flow.

I think when I have to go for smog Im just going to swap in the old headers. But now im tripping because a friend of mine just told me he thinks that my flowamster with a turn down pipe right after it isnt even smog legal. Plus i got my custom intake going in. Not really sure about that either. I might be screwed when it comes time to smog. I guess ill have to save every stock part i got.
