My Mechanic (non-dealership) noticed an engine rattle when I pulled away from his shop after an oil change. He called me and told me to listen for it but I did not really notice it.
We went for a road test and he found it at 2100-2200 RPM's. We stopped and he got under the hood while I held the Idle at 2100-2200. He said it was coming from the Intake Manifold Collector.
He pulled up the TSB's and sure enough there was a TSB on the issue.

"Reference NTB05-015
RATTLE NOISE FROM VAIS POWER VALVE ACTUATOR/ INTAKE MANIFOLD COLLECTOR.

VIN built after 1N6AD07W*5C410911

Rattle noise at 2200rpm, coming from the variable induction air control system (VIAS) power valve actuator. ""

My stereo is always on so I could not here it.
I contacted Nissan and they will replace the part this friday under warranty of course.

Hope this helps.

by the way
In case you were wondering the 2005 Frontier has no recalls and very little TSB's.
Compare that to Dodge, Chevy, Ford

Ya that was what happened to me back in March. My dealer replaced the induction system and all has been well.

A TSB is almost like a recall. They just don't tell you about them. If you have the problem and can bring the TSB info to them, they should take care of it no problem.

I had found a strut issue TSB for my Impala. They took care of it for me free of charge when the car had 88k on the odo.

I have an engine rattle as well in my '07. It seems to occur when accelerating...add this to the list for my warranty visit!
As I recall, the TSB doesn't cover latter '05s and after because they rengineered the intake at the factory. There's another TSB for engine knock, but its for the 4-Cyl.. But, but all means get them to take a look at things.

thanks for letting us know that there is a TSB for this. I too have had this problem, but didn't think i could do anything about it. As this is my first vehicle and i have no idea what a TSB is, do you think the dealer would blame/accuse my short ram intake for the problem (just got intake a few days ago)? Or do i tell them that it has a TSB and they HAVE to fix it?

I had to deal with this a couple of years back...except for the fact that had to keep it a couple of days, which I don't know why they did, I was pleased with the work...
