Mine is doing the same thing, sounds like it's coming from underneath to me. I wouldnt doubt that it's my catalytic converter though, my pre cat on bank 1 went RETARDED. .. it was rattling for a little while, rattling disappeared and now I have a very quiet tick-tick-tick-tick coming from underneath the engine. It's only sometimes though. Maybe it's a catalytic converter like my case?

I need to get my headers and get rid of these pre-cats. I don't want to drop my truck back off with nissan, we have an absolutely horrifying local dealership. I've already been through hell with them...

I have tried high grade gas no better, not the gas, I know what that sounds like. its not that. Doesn't sound like exhaust either. It is a valve, rod, or something.

Its hard to tell what it is, but sounds a little louder than normal. Mine makes the tick tick tick... sound which I believe is the fuel injectors.

I looked at the Titan clip (and all the comments on how Nissan's quality is bad) and its not as bad as that. A lot of people commented on a bad manifold which some of the older Titans were plagued with. Titan is much louder and doesnt sound like your truck. However, someone did make a specefic comment that they had a similar issue when running Mobil 1 which I believe you do as well. I think Mobil 1 is really light for a synthetic? Could try a different oil brand like Castrol Syntec and see if that changes anything.

What did the dealer tell you when they heard it?

The stealer, oops, sorry, dealer didn't really say. I think they were trying not to alarm me, as it had only about 800 miles on it at that time. I started it today and it was about 10 degrees last night. No Rattle at start up but it knocked/tapped/pecked pretty bad the whole time I let it run & as I had to move it. Just wished I heard it the night I bought it, I would have waited and got another one. :censor:

I just got the exact same truck down to the same color. Mine sounds like a lion purring when its cranked and at times at a stop light i have to check to see if its running, its that quiet. I would get it checked out ,that dosent sound normal. Most states have a new car lemon law that if your not satisfied with them fixing it they have to replace the vehicle, i would look into that. Good luck. As for mine i put a K&N air filter in and picked up 2 mpg more on a tank of gas.

Glad yours is ok! I love the looks of the Red Brick. I have a K&N as well, can't tell on mpg yet. I really think They should do more, like exchanged it or something. I will never buy there again thats for sure! They wanted my truck and $3000 for one just like it they could get from another dealer. What a crock of :censor:

I have a 2009 LE 4x4 and it does the same thing. It sounds like it is not as severe as yours but it ticks and knocks most of the time. I bought it in the fall and did not hear the sound with warmer temps. Now in the winter it does it most of the time. It gets better when the engine is warm but you can still hear a soft knock sound. Mobil 1 helped but the sound is still there. On cold start up before Mobil 1 it would rattle pretty bad. Now with synthetic, no rattle at all when started.

This could also be attributed to colder temps. I had my first oil change done at the dealer and I'm not sure what oil they use but assume its conventional. Anyways, mine seemed to rattle more in warmer weather when started vs colder. Unless something has worn down or my engine has made a dramatic change, it seems maybe 1 in 6 cold starts it will rattle now that the temp is in the 30's and 40's. In the summer it seemed that every start it would rattle.

One would think it would be the other way around so

Could be because the oil is thicker when cold, sort of like the old trick of adding motor honey to quiet a thumping old motor. At least it might something like that:itsfriday:

Well, FWIW, my 2010 has a very slight diesel sound to it, especially under load - reminds me of when I was in grade school and riding the bus.

Very slight....
I know what you mean. I've said under my breath this thing sounds like a diesel several times. I have to wonder just how many have this issue? And the biggest ? of all is WHY.:crikey:
