Hey!
I have a 2010 CC 4L, what is the easiest way to check the transmission temp? I have just bought a heavier trailer and want to be able to see what is going on.
Can you use a scan tool, or is there a gauge that will just plug to the diag port?

Thanks.
Have a good day!

I was hoping for just plug this gauge into this connector under the dash. I was hoping with all the electronics in the trans these days, their would be an easy way to find the temp. Thanks for the reply.

I'm guessing an auto tranny right? If you so could also put in a T fitting on the trans-cooler on the inlet side of the cooler (outlet side of transmission). It won't give you as high a reading as the pan but should be close and should be MUCH easier to do. The hose is rubber and could be cut and a T fittings/clamps with a sensor could easily be added without having to drop the transmission pan and it would be much cheaper.

Thoughts?

Excellent question. I've been looking into it as well, and putting a T in is pretty much what I've come up with as well. Maybe we'll see some more suggestions, I'd rather not T into that line.

Heres what I did.

Way easier than dropping the pan and welding a bung. Plus I searched for hours on the net for an adapter for the drain plug....apparently they arent in existence.

This was for the radiator cooler bypass but you could do the same thing without doing the bypass. Just remember anytime using pipe fittings, use thread sealer.

IIRC there are 2 temp. sensors inside the valve body/housing.. No one has yet figured out how to piggy back onto one; the test port route may not the be the most accurate but it's enough tell you to take it down a notch.

g/l.

The Bullydog GT does report what they are calling transmission temperature. I've heard people say that there's no temp sensor on our tranny's so it may be tapping into something else but if what you say is true maybe the Bullydog is reading one of these.
