Was just curious if anyone has removed the front diff to work on it and any problems arose. I only have one vehicle and cannot do any heavy work on them now. Injury. I know a guy who has worked on many of my cars, trucks but he only does it if its removed from the vehicle.I figure if the front diff,cv shafts and front shaft is removed it should be ok because the load is on the unit bearings.Im not sure if it will throw codes or just drive around with the VDC off. It will be about a weekend job.He is a good friend but his back is blown out so thats why he bench works them. For $150 to reinstall my Lokka, new 4:10 gears all new bearings and seals. Thats labor. Everyone else around here charges $750 to $1000 for labor!

Thanks Bill

Have you bought the gesrs yet? They are back ordered till the end of Ju)y. You are aware that if you have 3:69 gears your carrier won't work with 4:10"s.With the money saved on labor, buy a used differential. That is what i did.

SE King Cab V6 6spd, 3:54 gears. I have the 4:10s gears and install kits got them 3 days after I ordered them. I have a spare front diff with 3:69 but I have a Lokka in my diff im running now and I,m swapping it over when I have the 4:10s installed. Im keeping the front diff with the 3:69s for a spare.

This is a bit more work, but you could always bolt in the 3.69 front diff while you have the other out. As long as you don't put it into 4WD you should have no issues.

You can leave out the parts and drive around without issues. There are no sensors or any way for anything to know if there is a front diff in place or not. The way the front wheel bearings are built they will be fine without the CVs in them. If hyper-paranoid you could put a light coat of grease on the splines.
