Drivers Window works intermittently !!!!

Hi all,

The other day my drivers window would not go down when you hit the button. Then it started working without problems again until this morning. While it was working it was moving at the normal speed - not struggling/making noises like motor was going bad.

My question is do you think the culprit is the switch since the motor seems to move fine (when it works)?

Thanks,

-TJ

mine did that for about a year and now it doesn't work at all. i'm eventually going to ge the motor and regulator assy. from rockauto.com since they have it for way cheaper than anywhere else. good luck with yours.

I had the same problem. The switch would always roll the window down but going up it would work off and on. Took out all the window hardware to check the motor, guides, etc... Finally had to replace the master switch. Works fine now. Look for a switch online if you can find one, they are about $150 from the dealer, 300 to install. Took about 20 minutes to install.

My driver side window was intermittent as well. I could usually hit the lower door panel and get it working. I ended up changing the motor and regulator, and no problems since. So, based on the reply's here so far I'm not sure whether your issue is the switch or motor. I would try hitting the lower door area next time it stops working and see if that makes it work. If possible you should also see if you can test the switch and/or motor to see if there is any indication on which one is failing.

mine's doing the same thing right now tom, right even to the "hit the door" part. drew suggested checking the ground before replacing anything, i just haven't had time to mess with it.

yeah, i don't think i mentioned the "hit the door" remedy..... i got mine to work with that too.

Same here, Replaced the motor and fixed the problem. Now my RR door window is doing it... Will be replacing that motor soon as well.

huh?^

what's the best source for getting the window motor? obviously the best price for an OEM one i've found was courtesy parts but are there alternatives?

The motor is getting jammed. I unjammed mine once but it inevitably got stuck again.
I replaced the motor. An expensive, yet essential fix.

Thanks guys. In the middle of the motor install right now. Same issues I've been reading....window goes down, but struggles or needs assistance going back up. Did you guys end up taking the glass out as stated in the Haynes manual?? In all my years of tinkering on cars this is the first window motor I've done. Thanks Pidge.

i've only done a couple window motors but in the ones i did (both nissans) you had to take the glass out to do it

Guys, here is the thread on how to change the window motor regulator: http://www.clubfrontier.org/forums/f23/how-change-window-regulator-motor-60201/

My question is, I was going to purchase it from Amazon.com and then I saw bbaker06's post where he bought it elsewhere (good price by the way), however, the part number is slightly different from each other. Would the rockauto.com one work on a 2006 Frontier?

Edit: Never mind, I see the difference, one is with the motor, the other is without the motor.

Do we need the motor when doing this swap or can we use the existing motor? Or is the existing motor also part of the problem?

I also just had problems with my driverʻs side window motor/regulator. Mine was not the switch. I had 12 Volts to the switch and 12 volts at the motor/regulator so I know the switch was good. I bought a Dorman motor off Amazon for ~55 bucks with free shipping to Hawaii. This unit includes the regulator. I did not know which was the problem and for the price I was able to replace both. The dealership quoted ~$300 plus for just the window motor. Install was quite easy. 4 bolts holding the track. 3 bolts holding the motor/regulator and 2 bolts securing the glass to the track. I did not have to physically remove the window from the door but it did have to be removed from the track. On my 2004 King Cab, the driver window had trouble goin' up on some days. I sprayed a little aerosol silicone lube on the window channel, OK now.

installed the amazon window motor on monday, it's been working just fine since. i'll report back if i have any trouble but overall i was very happy with the product. it makes a hair more noise than the OEM motor but with the door panel back on, i can hardly hear a difference. i would recommend this to anyone looking to replace their window motors without hesitation. it took me (and a coworker to hold the glass) about 30 mins from the time we started to finish including stopping for a minute for adult beverages

Old thread, same problem.

If the window is not operating, check for power at the motor. If there is power at that point, the motor is toast. If no power at the motor, check for power at the switch.

Most window switches are easy to crack open, sometimes it is just a burned contact that needs to be cleaned up. Just be careful with little springs that might fall out.
