This is similar to my other thread, so I apologize for this.

I am looking for a new head unit to replace my AVIC D2.

I do not need DVD capability, and I am ok if there is no NAVI.

I would like to have good IPOD control, and HD radio.

I am a big fan of Alpine, but all of their DD units are DVD units. This would be ok, but I would prefer to not pay for this feature that I will not use.

I would like to spend less than 500 for the HU, if possible.

Thanks for the input.

i have an alpine IXA-W404 and i love it. you can add on any feature you want if you got the cash.

i like the fact that it still has a volume knob and buttons for every function so you dont have to use the touchscreen controls if you dont want to.

the screen is still large enough for the backup camera to be useful. and you can watch videos from your ipod as well.

no cd/dvd drive so its ipod only. I cant comment on the radio tho. the stations are such garbage down here i dont even have the antenna hooked up.

I have read that this unit has issue with the clock never stopping; i.e. it may read 8809:30 o'clock.

Have you had any issues?

I got a Pioneer Avic 700BT double din on ebay for 147 bucks. Then I went to Avic411.com and learned about upgrading the firmware. I can play music from ipod, SDcard, CD or radio. I can ad siruis/or xm and I do have navi. COst me 50 bucks for some harnesses. Very happy with the setup. (BTW, you know your D2 is modable?http://avic411.com/forum/ )

JVC KW-XR810 CD receiver at Crutchfield.com

i just bought this JVC and HD radio receiver from crutchfield and had the local best buy install it this morning. I have to say that I'm really impressed. first and foremost, the color of the screen and buttons are completely customizable; it matches the dash orange/yellow color perfectly. the operation is simple and intuitive. It paired quickly and easily with my iPhone 3gs; it streams content directly off the iPhone via blue tooth although you can only control the iPhone directly this way. you can control the content directly via the head unit if you plug it in directly (back of the radio has a USB 2.0 that only requires your Ipod/phone cable for full service.) It looks really good but its not too flash; it looks like it could have come stock in the truck.

It has blue tooth iPhone capability built in (does not require a separate adapter) and the microphone is included. The phone calls sound great on my end and my wife couldn't tell the difference between the BT and just using the hand set. Again, the UI is really intuitive and easy to operate via the head unit.

The sound quality is really good too. It has several preset EQ settings, but after just a little fiddling, it sounds really good with the stock speakers in my KC SE with the stock speakers.

I'm pretty happy with this thus far. Its everything I wanted. It looks stock-ish, so i hope the thieves pay it no mind. It matches the gauges perfectly. It has BT built in and the call quality appears to be top notch. The HD radio is really pretty awesome; I bought it because the local NPR station insists on playing classical in a jazz town but they have a 24 hour jazz station on a parallel HD stream...it sounds awesome! huge difference between analog and digital signals. I'll update later if necessary but thus far I give it a big thumbs up for a drama free do it all HU :)

It was $399 for the HU and HD radio box.

Pete, most of you DD with navi are going to be DVD players because the navi uses DVDs for the maps and such to load into the radio. I rarely use the DVD feature of my head unit but it is nice to have.

Yeah, with the navi, most will play dvds.

but w.o. navi, most are considered A/V units, so they also play dvds.

Some, like Pioneer FH8000 do not...

Well, I pulled the trigger on the 3200 today, so hopefully it works as good as it looks
