I have a 2015 SV King Cab. I just bought a topper for my truck but the back won't shut all the way. A dealer told me that I need to remove the spoiler. He said I may have to install a new piece as well.

Anyone ever removed a spoiler on one of these trucks? I'm assuming I have to remove the plate off the back of the tailgate and there will be snaps or bolts.

There has been quite a bit of discussion on removal and replacement of the spoiler. If my copy and paste worked you will find one of them below. You may also do a search on 'spoiler' to see the many other related posts. I do think there was a detailed post somewhere here with pictures of the removal but I haven’t been able to put hands on it. I also include a page from the Service Manual.

My own experience was to have the Leer dealer provide the spoiler replacement, and they actually did the removal and replacement. I think others have gotten the rail used on the tailgate before 2013. Also, be sure to hang on to the spoiler - there are members with pre-2013 models that would like to buy. Good luck and please do post back as to how it goes.

So I removed the spoiler. It wasn't too hard but it's really difficult to remove it without breaking a tab or two. I broke three. It's really just a poor design in my opinion.

First, you need to gently pry the top piece. I started off in the corner. Once you see it lifting up you need to give it a little force and you will heard the tab release. Once removed, you need a torx head bit to remove the screws holding the bottom piece. The angle is a little tricky. I was able to do it with a ratchet. I bought a tailgate cover from capworld to hide the holes in the tailgate. It looks close to stock. It's held in place with some tape.

If anyone wants a spoiler with three cracked tabs, send me a PM. I plan to gorilla glue them back on.
