In the middle of my cam swap, I was debating putting some new iridium spark plugs in my truck. I doubt I really need them, but since i had my motor broke down I thought I might as well considering that I thought a set of iridiums might give a little better power because of their easier spark. I assumed we had platinum plugs from the factory. Well I just took one of mine out--- and I think I have iridium plugs. It is a NGK DILFR5A-11, and the main factor is it says IR in big blue letters on the side. From what I can find platinums have R on the side and laser iridiums have IR on the side. So is this a iridium plug????

According to the NGK site, the number they give for the Laser Iridiums, is DILFR5C11, with a stock number of 5443. The stock number is usually the ones the parts stores use. I'm not sure what the difference between the A and C are. But yes, they do appear to be iridium plugs.

Thanks hunterdan. What I was finding showed them as iridiums too. But I guess why I was questioning it was that for the few people on this forum who have changed their plugs, I'm pretty sure they had platinums. If I look in the nissan manual it even says we use platinums part NGK # PLFR5A-11. And I have NGK # DILFR5A-11. I know that good DIY writeup that shiner did, his old & new plugs had just the R on the side and were NGK # DILFR5A-11. I guess that means Nissan has crossed over to platinums some time in the 2nd generation run. I think these are actually double platinums since the electrode and the ground both have the fine wire. They also cost about $20-25 per plug so I'll be keeping these plugs.

Check out the first and second video. If they work, then they work...if not i'll swap back to stock or just buy OEM. I'm all in for new technology design if it proves to increase numbers performance and mileage.

I'll bump this thread in a couple weeks.

I don't think double plats have wires.
they have "pucks" and they are cheap. I bought some for my
sentra and they were only $4 or so per plug (double plats). If they cost $20-$25 they sound like iridiums. AFAIK, the VQ uses double plats.

By the way, R stands for resistor.

They're supposed to come standard with platinum plugs from what I understand, but I switched mine to NGK iridiums and they're doing just fine

The nissan manual says we use PLFR5A-11, which are platinum plugs and they have a big blue R on them. I know those are also the ones that shiner used and previously had on his DIY writeup. My plugs are DILFR5A-11 and list as iridiums and they have a big blue IR on them. Checked how much they were at advanced auto today and they sell them for $17 each.

I just had my plugs replaced. It is DILFR5A-11. It is double platinum type. It has a pin both electrode and ground. Old plugs looks very clean still after 105,397 miles. Mechanic said it can go another easy $25k miles. So, I am convinced spark plugs last 100k miles.
Take care all !

The owners manual for my 2010 2.5 says change plugs at 30K. What type were original, and how long should they last?
You may want to look at that maintenance schedule again. The 2010 schedule included with your truck (which covers the US product line) shows nothing gets a spark plug replacement at 30k. The 370Z gets new plugs at 60k. Everything else including the Frontier is at 105k.

The owners manual lists the plug for your vehicle. See page 8-19 and for the type of plug see page 9-8.

Snake oil and advertising quackery. Why would E3 post a negative video about the plug.?
If miracle plugs did as promised, they would be installed oem.

Yup. When I worked in a parts store, someone came in that had tried them in a few engines. Said cold starts were better...for the first year. No change otherwise and crapped out after a year.
