DIY utili-track bike rack

Finished my mounts to fit the rail system to mount my DIY bike rack. One side is fixed, the other side is slotted. Stick in the fixed side, slide the other side into the tracks. Then tighten everything down.

Nice job. I did something similar, but just bolted a 2x4 directly to the existing factory utili-trac mounts...whatever those bulky tie-downs are called.

Where did you get the hardware to fit the track? I've looked but never found much available here...

You could use channel steel, AKA Uni-Strut, Kindorf. Just get appropriate hardware.

Yep. I also have access to t slot aluminum extrusion stock that I could have used. The 2x4 rack I have been using for over 10 years with no issues. It was made to fit in the slots in the drop in bed liner in my old Colorado. Might as well use what I have. The mounting plates were machined on the HAAS in our shop.

I use a 1x6 oak piece with 3 bike fork holders, I put it at the tailgate end as I have a cap and cannot install the way you have it. A buddy with a Ridgeline has his setup as yours.

This is a genuine question - any reason you can’t attach the mounts directly to the front utilitrack rail?

Something like this:

My tri-fold cover is in the way for mine....otherwise yes, I would have attached directly to my front rail.

Ah yes, this makes much more sense now!
It also depends on how far fwd your bike components go. The quick release mount on the front rail would cause interference with things like handle bars hitting the rear window.

i always mounted mine like @Slippers picture shows. but that only works on upright bikes. my recumbents have to be mounted differently since they are short wheel base and the pedals stick out in front of the fork.
