None of the aftermarket leaf springs for our frontiers have a true military wrap.
At best some have a extended 2nd leaf that supports the main eye.
I got my hands of a set of used Frontier springs that I want to play around with making a bastard pack. Thank you @JTD. My plan is to take the main leaf and open up the front eye so that it slips over the stock eye of another main leaf; military wrap. I am not sure if it is possible to do this for both eyes as doing so will take up material and shorten the leaf. Planning to chop the rear eye and have a semi supported rear section like the 2nd picture post above.
Question on how one would go about "unwrapping" the eye. Figure it isn't going to be a stick a screw driver under the seam and pry it open bit. Not much on the internet about this. I have some ideas but want to hear from the collective.
Yes I know what you are thinking. Spring shops... this is dangerous...they sell... you are stupid...
All true, but I do this kind of stuff for fun, so any constructive input is appreciated.
For the rest of the pack, my plan is to remove the over load spring and added maybe 2 additional leaves in total. Hoping this will increase flex, and add only a little bit of lift. Since I do carry load, I plan on keeping my airbags. Plan on unbolting the lower airbag mount and use a daystar cradle. When I do carry load and have my airbags pumped up, my truck does not sag at all and still have some of my lift. Thus I figure that other than providing height due to the thickness itself, the overload springs is not used; all the load is on the airbag.
I am hoping that this bastard pack will give me more flex/travel, a safegaurd in case of a broken main spring, and retain my airbags load carrying capacity.
