Hey everyone.. Does anyone know if a Nissan dealership can disable the automatic locking feature that locks the doors at 15 MPH and then doesn't unlock them until the vehicle is in Park? Also, I notice if I am hesitant in moving the shift lever from P to R, it will usually cause that same system to send the unlock command to the door locks (I guess because it momentarily thinks its back in Park).

Thanks,
Rick

That must be a new feature. You should probably call the dealer service department for the answer. They might tell you that it's a safety feature and they might refuse to disable it due to liability reasons.

The answer is in the owners manual on page 3-6 and you can do it in under a minute.

The automatic lock and unlock functions can be deactivated or activated independently of each other. To deactivate or activate the automatic door lock or unlock system, per- form the following procedure:
1. Close all doors.
2. Place the ignition switch in the ON position.
3. Do one of the following within 20 seconds of performing Step #2:
● To change AUTO UNLOCK settings: push and hold the power door lock switch to the position (UNLOCK) for more than 5 seconds.
● To change AUTO LOCK settings: push and hold the power door lock switch to the position (LOCK) for more than 5 seconds.
4. When activated, the hazard warning lights will flash twice. When deactivated, the hazard warning lights will flash once.
5. The ignition switch must be placed in the OFF and ON position again between each setting change.

Excellent! Never thought to check the manual to see if it could be disabled by the owner... Thanks everyone.

I thought I responded to this earlier, but I guess I never clicked the submit button..

Anyway -- as I said in the first post -- if I am somewhat hesitant going from P to R, the doors will unlock one or two times.. But the bigger reason is so that I don't get the look from my girlfriend when I drop her off someplace without putting the truck in park first and she goes to open it just to find it locked. Its amusing, but it gets old. My previous vehicle would lock the doors -- but if someone opened the door from the inside, they would automatically unlock without requiring you to hit the unlock button.

Thanks all for the help.. Next time I'll RTFM

I like and don't at the same time in my work car. It's a bad habit to open the door when it's in drive but I put it in drive and want to look out the door the damn thing is locked. It's a good thing when driving through the hood. We have a lot of car jackings in the area with people who don't lock their doors and I don't always remember ether.

haha, the hood. I don't have that problem living in Gilbert, AZ, but I see how that is a good thing to have.

The auto lock feature that I hate is the one when I open my truck and get in and dont start the truck right away. The doors will re-lock automatically and when you want to get out the alarm goes off. :thatswck:

Lets say I want to look for something in my truck, I unlock with the key fob, get in, dilly dally around and look for something, cant find it, the doors auto lock and I open them and the alarm goes off. It probably is a feature so if you accidentally unlock the truck and didnt mean it that it will re-lock itself. I will have to check the manual and see if I can un-do that one.

I have a problem in my girlfriend's colorado that I want to open the door before she puts the shifter in "park" so I'm always getting pissed off at the door because it's locked haha.

PS, I'm sure if anyone WANTS this feature the BCM can probably be swapped with the newer version or flashed with the newer rom that has this feature on the BCM.

That was my original problem with my girlfriend always trying to open the door before I put the Frontier in Park.. So after enough dirty looks, I disabled the feature.
