There are multiple choices beside that setting and easier to look in your manual than for me to type it here. Mine was set to lock on auto and unlock when put in park, I didn't like that either.

All I'm seeing in manual is on 3-5 it says:

For manual transmission models: All doors unlock automatically when the key is removed from the ignition.

Where does it show how to disable this function?

I just got my owners manual as it was missing when I picked up my truck 6 weeks ago. I'll look at it later but remember on my other Nissans it can be adjusted by filling a sequence electronically.

Cut and pasted from a post here in 2010, I'd think it should still work.

The automatic lock and unlock functions can be deactivated or activated independently of each other. To deactivate or activate the automatic door lock or unlock system, per- form the following procedure:
1. Close all doors.
2. Place the ignition switch in the ON position.
3. Do one of the following within 20 seconds of performing Step #2:
● To change AUTO UNLOCK settings: push and hold the power door lock switch to the position (UNLOCK) for more than 5 seconds.
● To change AUTO LOCK settings: push and hold the power door lock switch to the position (LOCK) for more than 5 seconds.
4. When activated, the hazard warning lights will flash twice. When deactivated, the hazard warning lights will flash once.
5. The ignition switch must be placed in the OFF and ON position again between each setting change.

All this stuff that should be in the manual (but isn't), needs to be put in a document and made a menu item on the system somewhere obvious. Been looking for a year to figure out how to turn this annoying feature off. Have a disabled stepmom that needs to be dropped off at doors, then I go park. End up having to shift into park, or fumble around with the locks.

Thank you.. Thank you... Thank You..

I just tried it and it worked on my 2016.
Both trans versions should unlock upon ignition shut of because if the person driving the auto trans gets to their destination but doesn't want to sit in an unlocked vehicle they have to re-lock the doors but the one in a manual trans truck gets to sit there and do nothing.
My automatic Sentra unlocks on turn off not like the Frontier going into park.

Thanks Clint. We don't like the vehicle deciding when the doors will be opened. For personal safety, we like to control when the doors are locked and unlocked by use of the lock/unlock button. Your programming instructions worked...the first time I tried them.

I don't mind when the doors lock when I start driving and I don't even mind that they stay locked until the truck is in Park. What bothers me is that even if the doors are locked I can't open the door to get out from the inside without unlocking it. Obviously, if the doors are locked they should not be able to be opened from the outside but is there a configuration to be able to open the door from the inside even if they are locked?

My garage is small enough that I have to park against the wall which is not a problem for me to get out but then my girlfriend doesn't have enough room to get out. So I always let her get out before I pull into the garage. She is always anxious to get out in a hurry and doesn't wait to unlock the door before pulling the handle. If it would just open when the handle is pulled I would be happy.

All she can do is either use the button or flip the manual lock just above the pull handle. All modern vehicles are too interconnected, we don't need half the crap as it's costly when it fails and causes issues like this when it's working as designed.

I am an Android/Linux user so I'm used to endlessly customizing everything exactly the way I want. I guess I'm spoiled that way. :usuck:

I just disabled the auto-lock feature. I don't live in a high crime area so I'm not worried about carjackings. It is kinda nice to hear the doors lock once I start driving but if it means I can't get out when I want, I'd rather just disable the whole thing.

My truck is an 06 and doesn't have the automatic lock feature when engaging gear. It does however lock automatically when it is turned off. I think it has something to do with distance of the fob from the vehicle. If I exit the truck and stay nearby for an extended period of time it will not lock itself. If I go into my house and come back out 10 minutes later, the truck will be locked. VERY ANNOYING!
Does the above listed procedure remove this function as well?

I have never heard of this function. Do you have an aftermarket alarm or remote start?
If i unlock mine with the fob and do not open a door in a specified amount of time it will relock. That is a good feature in my opinion.

I find this annoying as well, my wife's Buick, you pull the handle twice from the inside and the door unlocks, first time unlocks, second time it opens. Driving for Lyft this is a problem, i always have to hit the unlock button for people to exit.

Kind of creepy when someone gets into a strangers car then as soon as it starts driving all the doors lock. Sounds like the start of a thriller movie.

No aftermarket alarm or remote start. Also does what you mention, another feature I really dislike.
