This mirror is only available on LE models. If you must have one and your dealer won't install it on warranty grounds, go to an auto stereo shop. There are couple of models but most stereo shops prefer Getex by Mito Corp. because the window mount is standard--no gluing, etc.

Agreed, just do it yourself. I bought one from ebay for about $150, took about 30 minutes to install. There are some good walkthroughs on here that you can follow if you aren't confident in just digging in.

I just replaced the auto-dimming mirror on my 02 Xterra. The kit was part number 999L1-0001 and it came with a new harness (which I did not use). The product is made by Donelly and seems to be common between 1st gen frontiers and xterras.

For the 2nd gen Frontier there does not seem to be an oem accessory, but there is for the 2nd gen Xterra (999L1-N5009) and it is the Gentex product. While the website does not say so, its a good guess that this will work on the frontier.

Here are install instructions http://www.courtesyparts.com/instruct/999L1-KR001.pdf

Buy a junk pull one off eBay - Mine is out of a Chevy Silverado and was around $20. I had to get the sensor, but some of the ones on ebay include the sensor.
Works great - Auto dimmer with comp and temp. I pulled power off the interior lights and ran a wire to reverse. The latter turns off the auto dimmer when you are backing up, nice but I guess not absolutely required.
I can post the pin-outs if needed.

Gentex makes about 99% of all the OEM mirrors

Nice work! Sounds like you've got just the thing. Would you post up the year silverado, the temp sensor, and the pinouts please. I guess I shouold make sure to get the plug portion of the harness then?

Here ya go. Its been a while so I am not even sure which mirror is in my truck (16 pin or 7 pin). Anyway the vehicle that the doner mirror comes from does not really matter, but GMs tend to be easier for me to get parts (for ex. temp sensor - more later). Pretty much any year that had auto-dim /comp/temp miirrors. There is a TON on eBAy.
For EXAMPLE

Key thing is get one with the pig tail - you need the connector that plugs in to the back of the mirror. Some also include the temp sensor and connector (wires cut). These are good as diff sensors play differently with different mirrors (ie mirror shows 134° on a 70° day if sensor does not match mirror). For the link above you would need to get a connector and temp sensor for a 99 Suburban.
I would tend to go after late model parts (not the 99 I linked to).

Good luck hunting!
