Just so you know what the UU stands for. :D I know I know... very immature. It's been my username since the 90s and it kinda stuck.

Anyway > I'm Chris or Deez (whatever) and have spent plenty of time around forums. I ran a large area specific VW/Audi forum for about 12 years so I know my way around this kinda thing. You can probably guess that I am/was a VW fan previously owning everything from aircooled Beetles and Buses to anything watercooled including having a car imported from Belgium. I'd say I've had roughly 20-25 VWs in my day. That wasn't my only addiction... I'm also on Jeep number... uh... like 12?! TJs, YJs, JKs, XJs... I've had numerous of each. But since my wife 'took over' my latest JK-U and it was new car time, I'm giving Nissan a try! Just picked up a new plain white no frills Frontier SV crew/6' bed 4X4. Like literally... a few hours ago. It looks like a city vehicle!! So even though I always 'say' I'm gonna leave it stock... well here I am looking at things to do to it. Lol.

So on the short list, I need to :
  • add a backup camera DONE!
  • add keyless entry DONE!
  • add remote start
  • small lift purchased 2.5/1.5 ReadyLift
  • a bit larger tires
  • on-board air (for beach trips)
  • Uni-Grip bed bike mount DONE!
  • remove pinstripe/dealer sticker
  • custom rocker/tailgate graphics
  • add a hitch
  • all-weather floor mats DONE!
  • soft open tailgate
  • Softopper or tonneau
  • make it wife-proof somehow

Soooo... i'm hoping to transform my pain white wrapper into something a little more 'me' without getting too 'gaudy'

If you made it this far, you must have had absolutely zero to do today, but thanks for reading anyway. And shoot me info on anything above with pointers (without saying use search... really I promise > I know how to use it)

Chris >:D

welcome!

i have to wonder what wife-proofing would entail. my wife-proof cars were simply manual transmission!
shouldn't all SVs already have keyless entry?
yours has pinstripe? was it NEW? never seen pinstriping from the factory...

let's see a pic!

Welcome. You're in a similar position to where my truck is. When I was underneath adding the floor part of the utilitrack rails I found that they were fairly lazy how they stretched the CC SWB to make the CC LWB truck, there's a lot of room between the frame rails and the driveshaft around the fuel tank and on the opposite side, enough that you could add a sizeable compressed air tank if you want your onboard air to not have to work so hard to keep up with an impact tool. There's so much room that I can't help but wonder if a larger fuel tank would fit too, and someday I may see what the Titans got and if it would fit.

A member managed to stuff 305s under his wheel wells, he did a bit of trimming to clearance for turning but was able to massage the factory wheel well liner to put it back, I'm tempted to follow at some point.

One of the annoying things is that there's not as much aftermarket support for the D40 truck as there really should be given the sheer number of them on the road, and it's even worse for the LWB truck as many of the companies that produce rock sliders only do so for the KC 6' and CC SWB.

unfortunately, my wife is well versed in the art of the manual. Lol. No keyless... my understanding was it was some sort of added value package to get that. I'm sure the pinstriping was a dealer added thing. I'm personally not a fan and will be taking it off sooner not later (that's all I need it a fight with baked on stripes). Gotta remove the dealer sticker, too.

It's little things that drive me crazy. :chainsaw:

Interesting, my 2015 SV that does not have the value truck package came with keyless entry. Two remotes. I was going to tell you to check your windowsticker but I just pulled up mine and despite having the remotes it does not say on the windowsticker if my truck has keyless entry. Makes me wonder if the system is installed in the SV truck but simply has no remotes delivered with it and if one could just add remotes and have it work...

Interesting... I might have to see if it's that easy. I'll have to search for where the keyless module is on factory trucks and see if I have that (or if it's just programming or whatever). When I bought it, I told them I wanted ZERO extras! I just want a truck and it has to be a 4 door. Bonus was the long bed and 4X4 that ended up only slightly more than a used 2WD 5ft bed. (better financing... I wasn't complaining). I do plan on adding keyless and remote start... just didn't want to pay for it for 5 years with intrest.

Oh, was going to say earlier and forgot...

For a hitch and the wiring for it, go to an auto wrecking yard. Same parts forever and ever, no sense in paying new/retail.

etrailer.com has a bunch of videos on Youtube showing how to deal with the wiring and the parts needed. Looks very easy, some parts in the kick-panel, the pigtail at the end at the bumper, and bolt on a hitch and you're done.

This is the reason I love enthusiast forums... just peeped the thread about how to see if you have keyless, looked for the module, tested the program mode, hit up Amazon for a fob. Don't know if I can program it or if i have to take it to the dealer, but for 6 bux > who cares!! I'll figure it out. Lol.

Thanks for the welcomes. Got the bike rack mount in today. I'll snap a pic or 2 tomorrow before I head beach-ward for a little 2 wheel pedal therapy.

I went with a Remote Start/Security System/GPS Tracking by Drone Mobile. Very cool system.

Whoa!! That's sick!! Don't know if that'll be on the immediate budget, but looks like something I'd like to work in sometime this year. I love the AppleWatch and Alexa integration.

Another day, another addition. Ordered a keyless fob from Amazon for 6 bucks... programmed it... I do indeed have keyless ability. So now time to send a PM to raine to figure out which Rogue key I need. :2cool:

I wonder...

Even though the truck itself lacks a trunk to pop, does the receiver have the ability to trigger for a trunk? With those aftermarket electric poppers to trigger the tailgate lock, it would be nice to have a separate button for just the tailgate. Of course the trunk popper is unlock/open only, versus unlock/lock like the tailgate mechanism...

Got the rear camera hooked up to the factory head unit today. Everything was routed alongside the factory wiring (as best as possible... I used to do that for a living) and wrapped in flex-loom. Used a Auto-Vox CAM-1 license plate camera and AXXESS AX-NIS-ADDCAM1 harness... easy peezy.

Bought a Rogue key BUT lost my damn valet key (wife must have 'cleaned house' and relocated it) so either gotta go on a hunt or just bite the bullet and pay the dealer to prog the transponder.

Also figured... it has 500miles on it. I need a lift!! So the 2.5/1.5 ReadyLift is waiting for a day of warm weather to boost me up a bit.

Coming right along!! Still trying to come up with a good design for the rocker panels. I see so many plain white Frontiers driving around that I'm waiting for someone to approach me about doing a land survey or something.
