Ok all - sorry for sort of taking my intro post and making it into a second thread, but this is the meat and potatoes of the deal.

Truck: 2010 Suzuki (Nissan) Equator Sport, CC, 2wd.

Dealer A. 23,399 + ttl, doc - $500 college grad (wife) discount = $24,896.38 out the door. Includes LIFETIME powertrain warranty. It's an aftermarket warranty not Suzuki warranty. This dealer is 2 hours away.

Dealer B. 23,399 + ttl, doc - $500 college grad discount = $24,896.38 out the door. Standard 7yr/100K powertrain warranty. Dealer B is 30 minutes away. In addition they are giving me:
* Purchase any accessories at their Dealer Cost
* $50 gas card
* Free year of oil changes for the 1st year
* Option of bumper to bumper extension for $500

Here is the actual email from Dealer B.
Dear Mike,
1) Suzuki DOES NOT OFFER a LIFETIME POWERTRAIN at all! Ray's [Dealer A] said that its good any dealer nationwide. Thats not true. Our dealership will not honor Ray's [Dealer A] warranty!

2) Invoice is $24652 Holdback is $745.50 = $23906! We are already at a $507 LOSER deal. So we didn't just cut the holdback, WE GAVE IT ALL TO YOU, and then some.

3) As far as any extras go, mud flaps, bed-extender that stuff. You can purchase at OUR dealer cost. Whatever it costs us, is what you can buy it/them for.

4) We will give you a $50 Gas card if purchased before the end of the month.

5) You will receive a FREE loaner vehicle if you purchase a New car from our dealership. For as long as you own the Equator and service it here.

6) Free Oil changes for the 1st year. 3-total.

7) As far as the $500 for the service contract, it is a SUZUKI BUMPER-TO-BUMPER for 7yr or 60,000 miles. A lot more value and coverage than the POWERTRAIN (which is strictly engine and trans). Bumper-to-bumper includes ALL ITEMS except wear and tear and maintenance.

Hopefully you see the value in what we're doing. And the work we are putting in to earn your business!

With My Regards,
Peter

So, what do you think?

Go with dealer B. They are closer and if you need service urgently do you want to drive two hours away?
It's important to have a local dealer as an ally.

never herd of a college grad discount
Suzuki Auto : Special Offers : College Graduate Incentive

Most manufacturers have similar programs. I used it when I bought my car right out of college in 2002, and again when we bought my wife's vehicle in 2004 (she finished undergrad in '03).

,just know your figures before you go,
That's one of the reasons I love doing all of this haggling through email. I can print it all out and bring it with - if anything is different I have it in writing already.

2010 Suzuki Equator Sport, CC, V6, 2wd, 5AT

Loving it so far! Not sure where I'm going to start with modifications, but I think step one is splash guards. After that, OEM fog lights.

  • some kind of easily removable cover for the bed. Not a huge fan of tonneau covers, but want something to keep the bed dry when I need it to be
  • Safari/Bull bar, KC/Hella/etc lights
  • Maybe a roof mounted light bar - I get nervous drilling holes in roofs though.
  • Headunit and speakers gotta go.
  • small subwoofer - I want to get something behind the rear seat
  • Bluetooth kit (depending on headunit)
  • Steering wheel audio controls
  • Navigation

I'm not sure if I want to put in the factory pop-up navigation mount and use a Garmin, or get an in-dash version when I replace the headunit. It would probably be about the same cost to do the OEM nav mount, garmin, and headunit vs. in-dash navigation headunit.
