I've been using these and have the following issue: They seem too bright and can't be aimed correctly!

I get flashed every so often (a lot of 18 wheelers...). The beam pattern seems very spread on low beam, but only gets slightly higher on high beam. The result is that I can only aim them one way so that I have a high beam; otherwise, I aim them too low and my high beam is too low and becomes more of a brighter low beam. This way of aiming seems makes the low beam too high and too bright.

Has anyway else had this problem? I am almost wanting to plug my halogens back in to avoid getting an improper equipement ticket... or getting 35w 6000k (or lower).

Maybe this is due to the newer/more spread reflector design on the new 09+ headlights?

BTW, 55w 8000k is like an light teal color... I would say a 7000k 35w (not 6000k).

Yes this is exactly true and why I got rid of mine. The halogen housings do Not work correctly for HID lights. I bought the ebay projectors and did not find better results with them either. I have gone back to PIAA halogens and have not had any issues since. Its like a double edged sword. You aim them up to see, and then get flashed by everyone, aim them down and you can't see 'Jack' down the road.

I love my DDM 55w 8000ks. Its probably all a matter of personal preference. Sorry to hear about the issues though man.

There is a reason why your truck didn't come equiped with HIDs and you have confirmed it to everyone.

I know you think they are cool or whatever but in reality they are a hazard.

Now, if you do the proper HID projector retrofit, then you should be good to go. Anything less then that, then you are just going to cause issues for other drivers and possible get some tickets.

Thinking that maybe those blue tipped bulbs are better... they may be slightly less bright, but they are more OEM and maybe can be aimed correctly.

Anyone try these? Something like this: PIAA White Bulb, PIAA Xtreme White Automotive Bulbs

I really like these 8000k 55w HID, but I don't want to be a dick and blind people at night and maybe get pulled over (they are so dam bright that I figure i will eventually unless they're aimed so low that I can't see anything).

I called DDM and am returning this HID kit...the bottom line is that the 09+ frontier headlight reflector does not work well with HID lighting: An inconsistent beam pattern is created that has a low beam that is too bright (inconsistent and glaring), forcing you to aim them way down, which turns the high-beam into a slightly higher and bright low-beam (not a high-beam); another words, you get a choice...blind people and risk getting a ticket or have no high-beam at all (and I like my high-beam :heysexy: ).

I called my local police station and was told IF A VEHICLE DOES NOT USE DOT APPROVED LIGHTING, THEY ARE LIABLE TO GET AN IMPROPER EQUIPMENT CITATION! DDM HID Kits are NOT DOT approved.

On a note: DDM is not easy to deal with and customer service and support is a POS, they send broken, low quality, mislabeled, china parts with poor designs. Overall, they are a cheapo brand I would NOT rely on.

When I put the OME bulbs back in, the difference was night and day! The halogen bulbs WORK BETTER by providing a well spread high-beam that is ACTUALLY HIGH and a consistently spread low-beam that is low. It is much easier to see a deer at night with halogen's high-beam.

The halogens are NOT as bright, BUT THEY PROVIDE BETTER LIGHTING.

I strongly advise any 09+ frontier, to NOT get a DDM 55w HID kit. A 35w kit may work better, but I bet high quality halogens will work ever etter.

Don't take my word for it! Go through the trouble and waste of time that I did. What got me to do it was it was so dam cheap and I figured "what the heck, worst case I wouldn't loose that much money if it didn't work out." The problem is the effort and time I spent WAS NOT WORTH IT, though it was an interesting experience that may be useful in the future.

A lesson here: Careful tampering with original designs... they are designed in a particular way for a reason.

Just my rant.

Thanks! You did a lot of work. Im just gonna keep my DDM kit though. Considering I tried everything else besides a projector retrofit and they work the best and I dont have money for a retrofit right now or the time.

I have 35W 6000k kit for my 09 frontier and i love it. Its from a company called oracle (www.aacstyle.com) and their items are guaranteed for life. I already had a ballast go bad and they sent a replacement.
