Hey all,

I am a proud new owner of a 2010 Frontier, and I want to upgrade the stock head-unit. I purchased the Pioneer AVIC-XT920 for a great price (~$500 after rebate), and now I need to find a dash kit that fits.

As far as I know, the only two options available are Crutchfield and Metra, is that correct? Are there other vendors out there?

Unfortunately Nissan did a damn good job with the factory piece that these kits replace, and I'm more than a little bummed to rip it out of a brand new truck.

Does anybody have any pictures of these or any other kits installed in a 2010?

Thanks, that looks great!
I have a 2010 as well, and upgraded the HU... I really like the metra kit, i think it looks good i would have attached a pic, but the one above is good enough to show you whats up. no real big help i know, but another person saying the metra kit is good!.

hope this helps.

also, take your time on the wiring harness, and soldering the connections, etc.. and you will have a great experience. The kits instructions weren't great (IMO), but were good enough... take your time, and you'll be fine, and love it..

I have the Crutchfield/Metra kit and HATE it. The paint or coating or whatever it is on the plastic is chipping already and the buttons for the defrosters stick when you push them in. The thing sucks.

@rpmahone, thanks for the input, it looks like we have the exact same truck!

@spfdenhugh, is that the black Metra kit?
you have great taste then! i got the gray kit, thinking it would look better. but i think the black would look better. my upper tray at top of the dash kit is black, and think it would have flowed a touch better if i got the black kit. However i still like mine... if i ever scratch it or whatever i may replace it with a black, but i think it looks plenty good to leave it. sorry i forgot to add this but didnt think about it until i saw you ask if it was a "black" kit...

Yes it it the "black" kit which is really charcoal (as is out interior bits-with a hit of green in them, although I have problems distinguishing grey/green colors)

As to the comment that it chips ans scratches easily- I have had no problems at all. There is plenty or room to work in the radio area and room for XM box, etc under the HU which is where I put mine (zipped tied to supports). I also recommend soldering all the connections and zip tying loose/extra wires. I even used thin strips of adhesive backed foam (crafts store, walmart) where any plastic to plastic touched when installing the new bezel to eliminate any possibility of creaks, squeaks. Mine is rock solid and I am very happy with it.

The sound is quite good using OEM speakers. I will likely upgrade later, but the pioneer unit has a reasonably good eq as is.

I'll second this! I have the Metra Single DIN kit, and like Amos said a few of my A/C buttons kind of stick but work none the less. Also the little pocket and my receiver don't sit flush with the rest of the dash. They're set into the dash which looks like **** I think. I painted my kit and the top plastic piece both black so they matched and I didn't have to try to paint match.

Has anyone tried dremeling the factory radio trim to fit an aftermarket unit? Looks like the mounting brackets would work. The hardest part would be making a clean & straight cut...sure would look better with the factory texture.

Can't say the same about it chipping, but if you screw the section with the heating/ac controls in too tight, you will have trouble with them sticking. I just played with it a little bit to get the right tightness so they wouldn't stick and it was good to go.

I considered doing the same (very briefly). I am VERY picky re interior appearance (esp on a new truck) after all, you look at the interior the entire time you are driving! I would respectfully disagree with your statement. After all is installed, I think the dash kit texture and color are better than OEM (I know the OEM has the little pebble texture, but it is hard vs the aftermarket kit which is softer (almost like BMW bits). With a dbl DIN unit, all is great. I would not install a single DIN (w/ pocket). Those definitely look backyard whereas the DBL DIN look OEM or better.
