Cut rear bumpers - anyone doing them

Anyone doing a bed cut rear bumper, or something very low profile? I dont mind doing the cutting and grinding and drilling, but the welding is beyond me. Looking for something like this:

Full disclosure, I found that cruising ExPo and that guy is selling that puppy. Link

Anybody had success here? Seems like the Tacoma market has a bunch but there isn't much out there for us.

That looks awesome. I was hoping to avoid finding a local fab shop, but did you just have the mounts on yours moved down? Might have to learn how to weld and just do it myself...

They didn't touch the mounts. Cut 5 inches or so of sheet metal. I have a significantly better departure angle than stock.

Here is another pic...you can kinda see how the front is tied to the frame rail.

Nothing wrong with learning new skills. If you enjoy fabrication , go for it!
I definitely do, but welding in an apartment can be difficult. I've played around with TIG's before, but not much else. Is there anything mobile I could safely use on a screened concrete porch, or a remote location? (thinking trail welders, etc. There's plenty of woods around here...)
What about forum member Nomad 13 , he gives a pretty good step by step detailed procedure for cutting the bed for wrap around bumper...

Thanks for the link. I love that guys truck. I'd need the bumper before I do the cuts though. Im pretty good at destroying stuff, just not building new stuff afterwards ::laugh::
I've yet to see anyone making that type of bumper for the Frontiers (I keep looking and wishing though).

As far as I can tell your options are 1) take a bumper in production now and build onto it 2) build your own entirely or 3) see how feasible it would be to adapt a Toyota Tacoma rear bumper to the Frontier. its been done to the front... http://www.clubfrontier.org/forums/f10/cbi-offroad-moab-2-0-bumper-186898/
A 110 v welder will work. You can use fluxcore wire rather than gas. Small and portable.
