As I posted in another thread, my 18-yr old son totalled my 2009 SE KC 4x4 on 4/22. He dropped the right front tire off the pavement on a narrow 2-lane road with no shoulders, over-corrected (?) and went into a skid. The rear end of the truck went into the ditch while sliding, hit a culvert, and ripped the rear axle off the springs. Then, it hit a telephone pole on the passenger's door, and totalled the truck... seatbelts were snug, and the airbag deployed. He walked away with nothing other than a big bruise on his right shin from it going up under the dash (he probably braced for impact)...
The intrusion bars in the side doors were impressive, preventing the telephone pole from pushing into the cab -- the top bent in no more than 3'-5", yet the side impact was so hard that when the cab slid off the pole in its glancing blow, it caught the right edge of the bed and crushed it like a stomping a beer can... literally tearing the bed in half. The back of the cab literally ripped in two at the spot welds, leaving a 2" wide gash...
He was one lucky dude to have hit that telephone pole on the side, rather than head-on!
Here's a slideshow of the carnage: 2009 Nissan Truck - After
My new 2010 (same truck -- silver SE 4x4 with Value Package) has the side curtain airbags, and electronic stability control system, making it even safer....
Kudos to Nissan for building one tough, safe truck. BTW, from what I could see and tell, that box frame was still as straight as when it left the plant in Tennessee...
