I recently rebuilt my 05 4.0. It ran good for about 2500 miles then it started blowing white smoke. I pulled the heads and replaced the head gasket and it still blew white smoke. Its losing coolant and burning oil. A few mechanics i talked to said they they all had similar problems when they did the same rebuild. The block and heads were machined and prepped and didnt show any signs of cracking.

1: Are the 4.0 blocks known to crack? If so where?

2: Could it be a bad seal on the 2 piece lower part of the block?

3: Has anybody had this problem?

4: Has anybody succesfully rebuilt the 4.0?

TIA guys. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm not much of a mechanic but my father and I have successfully rebuilt a 4.0 after I had spun two rod bearings and continued to drive it for another 30 miles and reused the heads and block. The block had also experienced overheating when my water pump went out on me while I was driving. It's a stout block.
