So, I have the Polk DB651S 6.5" speaker in the front. When I got the truck I put these in. I don't even remember if it had 6.5 or 6x9's in the first place. I want to upgrade to some other speakers that actually show a bit more bass. I am thinking of some JBL 6x9 3-way's but was wondering if I need an adapter plate for mounting these guys? Eventually I may put in something like a Kicker HS8 Hideaway for a little more bass. I don't need rattling, just want more bass.

When you installed the 6.5's, was there a big enough hole for a 6x9? if not you'll need some kind of adapter plate. The factory front door speakers are 6x9 and they have a spacer thing they mount to.

So you are saying that there should be no adapter? That it should just fit fine? I wasn't sure if the door was designed in such a way that you needed some sort of adapter to to match against any irregularities.

Unless 2008 was different, it should have plastic "enclosures" that bolt to the door. The enclosure houses a stock 6x9, but if you have 6.5"s in it then you probably used an adaptor plate, like this:
