Okay, so I installed the K&N Cold Air Intake kit yesterday. Took me about one hour to install from start to finish. I must say that the truck accelerates a little quicker. I haven't had the truck for long, but it certainly moves a lot quicker than it did when I first bought it. Hmm, now what...

Just curious, but how does that provide any more cold air than the factory setup?
If anything, it looks like it will let in engine room air, no?
The box seals against the hood when it's closed and it still draws cool air from the fender. As for performance benefits, who knows. However, I ran one of those cheap Kool-Vue intakes on my Frontier for a long time and an AFE replacement on my Xterra for long time. I also run a ScanGauge, something that's capable of, you know, providing factual information about how the truck performs, rather than hearsay that's constantly posted about these intakes. My IATs with the aftermarket intakes were identical to those with the factory system, 5-10 degs above ambient. The only outlier was the Kool-Vue with metal piping, which would heat soak pretty quickly in traffic. However, it would cool down pretty quickly when starting to drive again.

Hot air dust induction intake. Bonus points for getting filter oil on your MAF and fouling it out!
Apparently, you're unable to read previous posts. Also, I just love how everyone jumps all over people who talk about installing an intake system.

I had one of these on a Turbo Cooper S ( K&N Typhoon ) and yes, it was noticeable, their dyno testing showed +11 to 14HP, documentable, but on an N/A engine, I doubt it does much at all, except sound cool. After seeing a computerized documented test video among various commercial filters, I pulled my K&N out before heading to Maine, due to them showing how much more dust can pass through a K&N. My wife's & son's RAV's still have the K&N cause in MD we hardly get any dust so not so much of a concern, in Maine we were on a gravel road traveling through a dust cloud for about 12 hrs straight, far different conditions. The AC-Delco Gold off the shelf filter tested in the top two, actually I think it was the top one tested, and so it's in there now. Part# A1267C

I did some more research and honestly, the difference in pickup and sound was ok, but not enough to convince me that it's better than stock, especially with all the other components being stock. I ended up reinstalling the stock intake. Honestly, if I wanted a fast car, I would have gotten one. Lol!

I installed one on my frontier, the airaid no oil version. I know I benefit zero to minimal performance gains and the potential for more insolubles… it’s just something I’ve done with every vehicle I’ve owned since my first. Never had the engine compromised in any of them.

Ok, from what I have read CAI does pretty much zero. What can we do at a reasonable cost to pick up some performance in my 17 pro 4 x?
It'll something but pairing it with a few more things and a tune is where the benefits will show. Can't do bolt ons without a tune, especially can't do forced induction without a tune.

Watch the Z1 video above and then look for their exhaust video. They've talked about a video pairing intakes with exhausts. After watching their videos I've been toying with the idea of a Volant intake, Banks exhaust, intake spacer and a tune. I would like a just a little more grunt while pulling my camper.

Although the dealer I bought the truck from keeps trying to buy it back, and a local Ram dealer will occasionally run some amazing deals on one or two mid level trucks. Usually just what I'd want.
