Cherry Bomb Kit ordered

8912 Views 32 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  Alpine_Mike
I just ordered an exhaust kit for my frontier, its the Cherry Bomb kit with the Vortex muffler, dual 2.25" in, with a single 3" out with a built in resonator in the tailpipe. The Part number is 300679. I've had the Vortex before and loved the way it sounded, but was too loud for me, thus the reasoning for trying the other muffler, but that just made things worse for me. I finally can't take the drone anymore, and wtih my 13 month old son, I don't want to take the risk with him. I ordered from this website, it was $420 with free shipping. Hopefully won't take too long to get it delivered.

Hunterdan, Show us some pictures with the kit out of the box & installed on your truck. I'm also on the market for an exhaust kit. Dumb question, but will these fit on a CC shortbed. Also let me know how the drone in the cab with this kit. $420.00 is a good deal for complete kit. Thank's.
As soon as it comes in I will be snapping some pictures on and off the truck. I'm guessing the interior drone should be minimal with this kit sine it does have a resonator. When I had the dual inlet single outlet with the factory tailpipe it wasn't too terrible. Will keep this updated.

Didn't have my camera with me when it came in. But bottom line, it did not fit. I had to take it to an exhaust shop and have them modify the pipes from the passenger side cat to the muffler, and the driver side pipe going into the muffler. It cost me an extra $100 for the install, the shop I went to was great about it. The tailpipe fits great and the tip looks awesome. I just got off the phone with cherry bomb and told them about the ordeal and I am hoping that they refund me the install money. Otherwise, it sounds great, performs great, with no drone in the cab, atleast so far. Sound is what I was looking for.

Does it sound in between stck and what you had before? Any way to get a vid of it, so we can hear it?
It's been so long since I had the stock exhaust but I would say slightly louder than stock but a nice growl when you hit it. The idle sounds nice, just loud enough to say it's not stock but with a nice rumble to it. I will try to get a clip of it tomorrow since the weather is supposed to be nice. It just sucked that it didn't fit right out of the box. I was torn between this and the jba but ultimately went with the cherry bomb because of the pipe sizes. I felt because of past experiences the smaller pipe size of the jba would have been restrictive compared to what I was running. The guy at the shop said expect it get louder as it's broken in which is fine with me. Overall I'm happy with the sound but not with install.

Man, that's a killer tone . The muffler shop did a good job on the welding. I gotta get me one soon.
If you do it, I would verify that the pipes are correct, or just buy the muffler, part number 88112 and a glass pack for a resonator. Then just have a shop put it all together. Should even come out a little cheaper than it did for me. The reason I went with a kit to begin with was that I wanted to something I could do in the driveway, was mandrel bent and already had the tip installed. Instead, I ended up taking it to a shop and having it installed because 2 of the pipes were wrong. I have to call them back in the morning to find out what they can do for me. Overall, yes, very happy with the sound, can carry normal conversations while cruising, plus the 3" tailpipe with 3.5" tip just look killer.

Dan, Your truck sounds amazing!!!! That is the best sounding exhaust I have heard for our trucks. Plus the price looks right! Congrats dude!
Thanks for the compliments, I want to get some pictures of the front end of the pipes, but the ground is wet because of the rain. I do want to get some interior sounds and maybe a drive by.

Dan
Talked to the guys at cherry bomb, the R&D tech is going to call me back and see if we can figure out why the pipes were wrong.

Dan
Sounds killer sitting still man.
A drive-by video and an interior video under acceleration would be cool.
I do have an interior cruising and under hard acceleration, but I forgot to bring the camera in to upload it. The R&D tech called me back and said that the system was designed around a Crew cab, can't confirm if it was for the long bed or not. But he said he is going to refer my case to customer service and they are going to make the issue right for me. Again, thanks for all the compliments.

Dan
Look good and sounds good. They did a nice job on the install.
Here is another soundclip from inside, with a good takeoff.

Sounds good, not too loud not too quiet.
Just a few updates on this, the sound has gotten louder, but still not bad at all, the tone is still perfect for me. The interior drone is still very minimal. I still am in contact with cherry bomb about why the kit didn't fit. When it was designed, it was designed around a CC LB, so that is the reason why the pipes were too long and the hangers in the wrong spot. The guy I've been talking to has been great and is interested in seeing what had to be modified to make it fit, so I told him I would snap a few pictures and email them to him. He also said to fax the bill from my exhaust shop to them and they will likely reimburse me since it was an error on their website that was to blame. I will update with new sound clips and hopefully more pics.
