Hey guys, well im off to college soon and i have a 6hour drive to FSU from my house. Been looking to buy a cheap car that gets good mpg, since my frontier averages 14.3 around town....

been busy on craigslist looking in south florida for a nice car. I have been looking in the price range of under 6000 bucks. I want something fast and stylish. But i will be paying the minimum insurance and dont want something that i would hate to tear up, as i plan on driving it pretty hard.

i dont know much about cars but i dont really want a civic or a peice like that. are audi s4 any fast? or like a coupe beamer.

it should be reasonably fast, cause im a kid and if im gonna give up my truck for a car it needs to be somewhat badass.

i am keeping the frontier just need a commuter. any input is greatly appreciated thanks

If I could have anything (and rear wheel drive would not be an issue, like in Florida) I'd have me another RX-7 again.
Something about those rotary engines.

OR an MR2 OR an S2000.

These are at the top of my list for "poor man's sports cars".

Of course insurance on these might not be that favorable for you if you are younger.

Infinity G20 think most of them came with SR20VEss quick fast tossable and comfortable.

00 or 01 sentra SE also with the SR20VEs not sure on years

any year sentra SE-R

if you dont need a lot of room for extra stuff MK2 MR2 91-95 turbo thats a FAST car

audis are not reliable long term and most sub 6k audis are beat.

BMWs are nice but your looking at E36s in the 6K range and most are beat at this point though I've always like the 318ti funky but cool and their are super chargers out there for them

Id go with the Sentra also. I got the 03 GXE and I have over 120,000 miles on it and it still goes strong. I use it for back and for to work. And it takes a beating up here in the NY weather and NYC pot hole ridden highways.

Is300's are nice, there pretty quick and have a huge aftermarket. You don't really see too many modded IS's either.

If I were you I would try my hardest to pick up a 240sx or an FC RX7.

I would also look into a Lexus SC300 or an MK3 Supra,

$6000 is about three years of gas, why buy, insure, and maintain a second car?

WRX is the shizzzz

or a lancer, I'd do a lancer

That wrx is nice but I would want one with an sti in it. Ther is an 2003 wrx that the guy dropped in an sti motor out of a 07
don't get anything with a swapped motor, and the wrx are fast enough, yeah the sti has a bigger bang, but the wrx is still pretty dern fast

how much of the fuel mileage are you willing to sacrifice?

get an early to mid-90's SE-R and drop an sr16ve or sr20det into it.
parts are junkyard cheap and no one will want to steal it as much as the honda you're parked alongside. stock SE-Rs should have no problem getting around 23+/30+ mpg while putting out 140hp...

or

a bmw e36 325 or 328.

i think they had somewhere around 190HP in stock condition and gets around 20/28 mpg

any of these cars bought in stock form should save you some money from your 6k budget for preventive maintenance or maybe some upgrades
