I have never had any luck removing a door panel that was installed at the factory and having it go back as it was. They never go on right, are loose, rattle, etc.

So my truck needs speakers but I refuse to remove the door panels.

Can I pop off just the covers and get to the originals?

If not that's fine, I will get surface-mounts.

There are no main speaker covers in the front or rear doors (2nd gen) that I know of (both crew cab and king cab), it's all one-piece door panel + speaker grille.

Raine is correct. You must remove the entire panel.

FWIW, I've never had an issue with the door panels and I've had mine out numerous times. Takes all of five minutes to remove it. There are plenty of videos showing how to do it.

To add to that, having the proper tools to remove door panels is what helps keep them going back on as close to factory as possible. Get yourself an inexpensive set of molded panel tools on Amazon or eBay, example:

$12 is a cheap investment if you want to keep from having a ton of interior panel rattles down the line.
