Ok guys Im going to get a CAI for my truck. Im probably going to get the AEM brute force. I can pick it up directly from the tire rack warehouse for $297. I know theres already a bunch of threads about CAI reviews but Im just looking for a quick updated review/suggestions on the AEM. Anybody recently get it? Working out well? Any problems? Im mainly looking for a great sound when I hit those high rpms. My friend just put the k&n on his taco and it sounds awesome when he floors it, the k&n would be my second choice.

thanks in advance

Yea, I got the impression that the volant is more work installing plus pricier. I got the impression that the AEM is quality and i like the looks of it. Definitely just looking for some reassurance.
thanks for the response

Volant and Injen are rated as the top 2 intakes for the gen 2 frontiers with the AEM/Nimso branded aem as 3rd they are both leaps and bounds above the other options out there the K&Ns for the gen 2s SUCK, mine lasts less then 6 months before I upgraded to the volant intake.

volants not hard to install had to widen the 3 bolt holes so i could align it easier. then just remount the horn which in the newer kits it comes with a bracket. but the instructions dont tell you what the bracket is for and i found this out after i stripped my horn out so now its just loosly mounted and i can hear it vibrating under my hood i will change eventually

and i drilled holes in the bottom to drain out water because i was driving after a storm and i was going down a road and before i noticed it a car was floating down the middle and at one point my truck was floating i was like os*** so i went directly to the car wash for cover and drilled holes in the lowest part of the box i think i might buy the water resistant cover for it also because we get rain like that 5-6 times a year and i happen to always find a big hole which makes me pucker up

My Volant is my favorite mod I've done.

It sounds incredible and it came with a 100k dry filter. It growls loud at about 2.5-3k plus rpm's. Going down the highway at 70mph feels much smoother than it did stock. Almost like the ebrake was slightly on before. Truck sounds stock until you get on it, which is nice, but when you get on it, its a really nice deep throat sound. My mpg seem a little better, but its all how you drive. The sound of it will keep your mpg down since you will want to floor it all the time lol.

Paid like 230 for it from Auto Parts & Auto Accessories - Over 6 Million Auto Parts, Aftermarket Parts, Truck Accessories & Car Accessories shipped. Look for a coupon.

I've had or tried most of the intakes on the market. Between the AEM\Nismo( they are the same just the nismo looks nicer, but no dry filter) and the Volant, the Nismo is still on my truck. Volant has really bad quality inspections. They had to send me 3 intake tube( holes on the mold seams, misplaced MAF threads, MAF area not flat) and a second lid because it was bent up. Performance was pretty much a toss up. As far as noise, the Nismo sounds much meaner under full throttle, but the Volant does sound good. The Volant did have lower intake temps by about 8-10 degrees though while moving, thanks to the ram air horn.

^---Exactly what I was going to say.
Lower intake temps means better performance, period.

I had the open Nismo CAI and it sounded too "wispy" for my liking, sorta like the truck had asthma or something.
I did notice a performance increase with the Nismo.

Then I went to the Volant, mainly because it's sealed.
As Red said, intake temps dropped off considerably (measured with my Scangauge II).
The Volant sounds better compared to the Nismo in my opinion.
And supposedly because it's sealed helps with torque on the low end where you clearly need it.

If I could only offer one piece of advice to anyone looking at installing a CAI, go with a sealed one . . ie Volant or Injen for example.

I've got a K&N with an AEM dryflow filter on it. Honestly, the only reason I went with this is because I got the intake off a member here FAR cheaper that I could have gotten it new. The sound is nice above 3K but it's a bit annoying from 2200-3000... The "sounds like it has asthma" statement is pretty close.

As soon as Volant comes out with their new kit for the '09+ I'm tearing the K&N off and going with that.

I don't think the temps would change much without the ram feature. Problem is on my 08 Nismo the AC Receiver is where the ram would fit so it's not an option with those models that have that aluminum cylinder in the way.

Just for additional info. After the Dec head-on with the guard rail, the original Volant air tube got messed up so I just used the factory. It took a little pulling on the corrugated connector but it worked.

Subject: 2009 Frontier

I have a 2009 Nissan Frontier (4.0L V6.) I currently have a K&N intake on my truck but am a bit displeased with it. I’d like to go back to a closed box system and from what I gather the Volant is the best. I looked up on the site and Volant only offers up to the 2008 model. Are there plans to make a system for the 2009+ models? I would dearly like to have one of these but I want to make sure it fits. Thank you for your time.

It's not on their site yet but it give a week or so and it will probably be there. Can also give them a call. I imagine it'll be about a month to market since the kit was just wrapped up.

I have the K&N and I like it just fine, but I haven't heard/experienced anything to compare it to. I have to say, it was simple to install, fit perfectly and the guys at K&N are awesome when it comes to customer service. They sent me a free filter when I had a question about the diff breather tube; check out my post on this if you come across the issue when putting your CAI in.

I would/am... However, if you really want it now, I've been emailing with Volant and you can call customer service and buy it from them right now.
