Hi All,

Im going to be driving through an area where there is a locust plague at the moment. I want to try and avoid blocking up the intercooler and air-con cores with the splattered critters and was wondering if anyone on has ever used a mesh screen on the front of their D40s to stop bugs etc from blocking up these components (or grass seeds for that matter out on some of our tracks like the CSR)?

I'm wondering if it will restrict the airflow too much. I have a 2.5TD and will be travelling at highway speeds. Any suggestions, feedback etc will be greatly appreciated

Cheers
Kyle

I have some advice, if you go down the fly screen mesh from Bunnings path, put it behind the grill. If you cable tie it to front as most people do it will leave a finish similar to having the grill sand blasted.

I made a screen up just like a fly screen that was mounted in front of the bullbar. Most times the bugs come straight and not up from below where the airflow comes from where ever it can
Keep in mind I kept it as far forward of the radiator as I could so air could flow around it .
it did stop 90% of bugs guts from getting into my radiator so should work similar for the intercooler

just me 2 cents worf

Well I am back from my trip and boy am I glad I took some flyscreen with me! On the way back I was keeping an eye on the cars heading in the opposite direction and some of them were a real mess . After collecting a few bugs I decided to pull over and fit the flyscreen to the bullbar. I also took the head off the snorkel and fitted some mesh screen to the opening. The flymesh had no impact on the engine temp or performance so it mustn't of had to much of an effect on the airflow but it did save my intercooler and a/c condenser. It still took about an hour to clean the bugs and their guts off the navara and given the mess and effort required there is no way I would have ever got the intercooler unblocked had I not covered the front of the vehicle with the flyscreen

Man those locusts swarms make a mess and they really stink from the moment they go splatter
