I just recently bought an '06 4X2 Frontier, 4 cylinder. It came with the steel 15 inch wheels and 235/70 tires. I was thinking about going to 16 inch custom wheels and either a tire with the same overall diameter as the stocker or maybe slightly larger.

1) I've checked several tire/wheel seller websites and they say there are no 16 inch wheels available for the '06 Fronty. Seems strange to me. Surely they are not that unique a bolt pattern and offset. Do any of you know of any?

2) If you have gone to a larger overall diameter tire how did you like it? Did you notice any change in mileage or performance due to the change in tire size. I don't want to overtax the smaller engine. :D

Thanks

Tim

probbly the wheel websites your lookin at arnt up to date with the 06 lug patterns id just call them, or im sure the 05 is the same, u wont kill your engine with bigger wheels and tired i have a 2.4L 2004 and i have 20x9" with a 45 series tire on there, cruises at 80 on the freeway and its lowered 3", i wish i would ahve gotten 18's with a taller tire make the ride a little better, but its not so bad u cant stand it go with some 17's or 18's a 15" to a 16" wont be that much of a change if any at all, custom wheels have a bigger veriety starting from 17's, but its your call...

I just recently went with a bigger rim and tire on my 05 Frontier. The bolt pattern on the new frontiers are strange they are 6 on 4 1/2 which is not really used much anymore from what I hear. I got a set of Eagle Alloys series 109 on mine with 31 inch Cooper Discover STT tires. The tires actually measure about 31 1/2 inches though. It rubbed the mud flap slightly when the wheel was fully turned but a little trimming fixed that. The truck is at stock height...I will lift it in the future though.

Yeah... I stopped at a few tire stores and heard the same thing. Odd bolt pattern last used on a 93-94 Dodge Dakota. Nissan must want to have the wheel market for their trucks all to themselves :(

Yea I don't know why they would use such an odd bolt pattern. This was actually my thrid set of rims. The first two sets that i bought were the correct bolt pattern but the offset (or whatever you want to call it) was not right...meaning the front rim was hitting the brake caliper. I was starting to get frustrated becuase I kept having to return rims, but looks like the third set works with plenty of clearance. Hopefully if your buying rims you don't run into this problem.

FYI

Just to let those interested know what I eneded up doing... I went with a set of 17" wheels off a '05 or '06 Pathfinder and 265/65/R17 General AW's. The wheels were pull-off's that I got through Tire Factory. I'm really happy with the set up so far. With the stock 235's the truck looked like a body builder with skinny legs. Now it looks balanced.

The combination is about an inch taller overall. It doesn't seem to affect the performance much. I know... I just have a 4 banger so I don't have performance anyway :D but I didn't want it to feel real boggy. I haven't hauled anything since the the new tires were installed.

Thumbs up to this setup.
