My birthday is coming up and I'm about to have a good push of money. I am wanting to buy a soft top camper shell for my 05 KC for camping purposes. I've noticed the only soft top for frontiers is made by Softopper. I came across another brand called Bestop but noticed they don't make a soft top for frontiers only tacomas. I noticed the truck bed specs between a frontier and tacoma are relatively the same give or take an inch in width. I like the bestop brand a lot more and was wondering if anyone has tried fitting it on their frontier or if you think it would fit the frontier?

I just bought a Softopper and the ordering goes through Bestop coincidentally. I'll be installing it this weekend if the weather holds.

We bought ours because we needed to keep camping gear covered for long trips and want to remove/store it when not needed. Our first trip with it will be in April. I'll post some pics and comments after install this weekend.

Total cost was about $1000 with shipping and taxes.

Thanks, was just curious if anyone tried the bestop tacoma soft top with their 2nd gen frontier.

Just before installing a topper, take your Frontier out for a spirited drive and semi-test your handling...cuz it'll never be the same once your center of gravity goes higher.

The install was pretty quick. I had some trouble with the rear hatch zippers, however Softopper makes the bottom portion of the zipper removable (it appears stitched) so user can remove the zipper slider and start over at the top. All in all, this took about 1.5 hours through the install with unboxing and removing packaging.

How is the front of the softopper secured to the bed?
It goes between the bed and the rear glass. There's two flaps, one short one inside the bed and a longer one outside.

They provide two options to secure the shorter one inside the bed: Velcro or snap screws that you drill into the bed. I drove around today on the highway with neither option. With the rear window open I heard no flapping.

I may secure the shorter end to the rear utilitrack with a clamp if it becomes a problem on longer trips.

From what I have read about softoppers, they only weigh between 15-30lbs. I don't imagine that would throw off the handling of your truck too significantly.

No doubt and my bad.
If I didn't need the extra height of an above cab topper, I'd have considered going the soft topper direction.
Pro vs cons exist and dictate when it comes to functions vs form vs visibility vs security...etc...
