Haven't been around here much for quite a while but thought I'd share the mod that was done to the truck in prep for goneMOAB this year.

After bashing the crap out of my bed behind the wheels and pretty much mutilating the stock bumper I resolved to do something about it. I've seen a few tube wrap arounds and definitely wanted the side protection. The problem was the design of the body behind the wheel wells was just waiting to get whacked by any serious obstacles. I'd been toying around with the thought of modifying that line so I went around to some body shops that do custom hot rod work. One guy was really into what I wanted so I went for it.

Turned out really well, they wrapped the body around a tube and welded it in for strength.

Now that I had the body out of the way, it was time to talk to the local fab guys about that tube bumper.

Really improved the take off angle since this is at least 6" higher than where the stock receiver used to be. Now its off to Utah in 5 days to test it out!

looks good! i would consider either moving that spare tire, or using a protective brace mounted between the hitch bolt holes.
The spare goes in a yakima basket that is mounted in the bed with the hi-lift and shovel.

Thanks everyone! I'm hoping to avoid the taildrag that everybody on the trail can hear whenever I'm climbing...

It was done by Sky's Offroad Design in Springfield, Or. They are a pretty much a Jeep/Toyota shop so it's a one off...Cost me 5 bills. It gave me the clearance to try (and make) Kenny's Climb and Tip Over Challange. Turned out I didn't need it for Tip Over 'cause Brutal followed me right up with his stock receiver hitch.
