Battery or Starter?

Spent the past hour on this forum looking for an answer as to why my truck wouldn't start tonight. I ran across 3-4 thread in regards to people having the exact same issue as I am having.

I put the key in the ignition. Turn it to power and get headlights, radio, shows battery power on the volt meter. As soon as I click it over to start the truck I dont get any power from the motor, just the starter click and the fluttering speedo guages.

Again, this has been posted 3-4 times back in 2008/2009, but the OP were nice enough to never post up again on what fixed it, or what they did to get on the road again.

I had to leave for work @ 7:30 tonight so i borrowed a car and bought a 24F600PS PROSTART Battery from Pep Boys on my way to work. So I am hoping it's a bad battery cell.

It wasn't a loose cable. I tugged pretty good on my cables and they didn't budge. I guess the only thing I can do is just wait till i get home at 6:30 tomorrow morning and try the new battery. Anyone have input on what else it might be?

..and don't worry. WHEN i get it fixed i will post up saying how i got it working.

Thanks,
Adam

I should point out that I am not at home right now. Or else This problem would be solved by now. I was just trying to get some idea's going around in my head so I could have a list of things to check for when I get home.

On my way to work tonight I bought a new battery, so first things first when i get home is replace the battery. If not then i'll check the starter relay. If that doesn't work, I'll tap the starter to see if any dirt buildup has happened. If not, I'll just take the starter over to the dealer or auto parts store and have them take a gander.

Only thing that makes me think it's NOT the battery, is the fact that the radio and everything else starts just fine. But when it comes to cranking over the motor, all i get is ignition click. odd indeed. :crikey:
My truck is an Auto. I did read that, thank though. I read about 10-15 pages in on the different searched for this site. again, the only ones that matched my problem were minimal. But when something was tried the OP's never came back to say if they got their trucks running again. OH well...

...4 more hours and I'll be home and I'll post up if the battery is the trick.
My guess is the battery.
Just because you have lights etc. doesn't mean the battery has enough CCAs to turn over the truck properly (if it's failing).
How old is the battery?
Good luck and let us know the outcome.
Hey Todd,

From what I reckon, it is the original Battery. Which had died on me before on multiple occasions, but always jump-able. I did not check fluids to see if it was low, but I figure a new battery wouldn't hurt anyways. It's an 05 and I've owned it since 2007. So 3 years of my kinda driving, It's about time for a fresh one. Will keep ya posted. 45 minutes and counting.

OUT.
The Frontier lives again!

Turns out it was just a crap battery. Started instantly on first turn. Felt good hearing the rawr of my banks 3"

Thanks for all your input.

Cheers,
Adam
Here is a pic of the old batteries current state.
