Hi All,

I installed a backup camera on my 2015 Frontier but am having an issue and wonder if anyone could help me out.

I have an eSky Backup Camera running to a Boyo rearview mirror w/ screen.

The camera is wired off of the passenger side reverse light, with red to red and black to black, with butt connectors. When I put the truck in reverse, everything works like it should. Problem is that when I start reversing, the image flickers every second or two.

Anyone know how to fix this? Maybe black from the camera should have gone to the truck frame for ground instead of to the other reverse light wire? Or maybe the tail light isn't 12v so there isn't enough power? If the latter is the case, maybe I should have pulled the power from the trailer reverse light harness?

Also, FYI for all, there is no fuse that powers on/off with reverse so our only option is to splice wires for the reverse lights (or maybe the trailer reverse light harness). There are two fuses under the hood that seem like they would but both get constant power.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Chris good idea. I have until July 22nd to be able to return to amazon so I'll keep this option in my back pocket. In the meantime, I read that installing a relay switch could solve my problem so I'll try that before I do the return. I'll post back to let you know how it goes. Once I get this thing working the way I want, I'll make a full post.

The camera should not be pulling much power. relays are always good for power delivery, mandatory on anything that pulls alot of power (lights, amps, winches...) But in this situation I'd suspect quality of connections and quality of camera, and quality of the coax cable. Since its a 20' integral cable, no way to improve or test that aside from hooking up an O'scope. If the splice connectors aren't crimped well, or moisture is getting in there (how did you waterproof the splice?)... this is why I prefer to solder everything... As to the ground, frame ground actually isn't better than signal ground. Steel has much less transmittance than copper, and frame ground connection points can (do) corrode. Now if you are regular & thorough about your maintenance and check your grounds for quality, re-apply No-Ox regularly, and have a good "Big 3 Grounding" then its a different story...

TLDR - I'd suspect the camera or mirror first (you get what you pay) check cam first... also make sure your splices are good.

Thanks Tyler. If I had you with me this would have gone much smoother!

I wired the 5 pin relay and now everything works perfectly! Per customer reviews of the camera, it needs the constant power from 12v instead of the taillight, on some cars.

Now I'll take it all apart one more time and solder everything, shrink wrap and water proof like you guys suggested so it's bomber. Thanks again! I'll start another thread with a writeup of the project so it's all in one place. Cheers
