So I had to learn the hard way, well....not really the hard way but If my T bars weren't cranked so hard. Since my new SL install I've been hearing a knocking noise in my front end while traveling over minor bumps and some cornering, plus my ride is stiff as ****. So I called my source and he told me the distance between bump stop on the LCA and the frame should be 1/2 to 3/4". So during my lunch break I went to investigate and measure. I was at 1 3/4"!!!!!!! Now since I'm not mechanically inclined I didn't feel like such an *** and I'm figuring that even with stage 5 poly bushings on the UCA's and they are tight this is where my knocking noise is coming from. What my source tells me is that I need to alliviate the pressure on my T bars and nose down an inch, I'm hoping this does the trick to eliminate the knocking noise and not make me feel like I'm "hittin switches" while going over the slightest bump. That being said, I'm taking the ride back to the shop tomorrow to adjust my T bars and re-allign. Please advise for input and I'll repost tomorrow when I'm done to give you guys an update. This can be avoided for anyone doing T bar adjustments and front suspension upgrades, out.

how much space do you have between the uca bumpstop and bumpstop plate , you may be riding on the UCA bumpstops which would give you all that space between your LCA bumpstop and bumpstop plate

can u tell me where to look for this. I mean I know what diff between UCA and LCA, and I know what the bump stops look like. But Like I said, my front end is really stiff. This has to be because of T bars right?

i dont have uca's anymore :)

but i think its 3/4" -1" would be best for lifted trucks your probably gonna be closer to the 3/4"

you can see under the UCA there is a bumpstop and bumpstop plate , this is the space you want between the uca and the bumpstop
you can also see the clearance between the LCA and bumpstop plate

I retract my previous statement. I just measured. UCA and bump stop/plate was right above 3/4". LCA and frame bump stop stop is 1 3/4".

then your right at where you should be for a lifted truck
does the SLR kit come with new torsion bars? if they do they may be stiffer and thats what your experiencing

also make sure you still have bumpstops lol

nah, stock bars, thats why im thinking i may need to back them off an inch. i do plan on going stage 5 with SLR though, i.e. shock hoops and coilovers, that should smooth it some too. Ha! yeah b stops are still there.

hell some xterras run around with 1/4th to 1/2 of an inch in between the uca and bump stop

do you have the stock bumpstops or aftermarket ones like the low pros? reason i ask is because the low pros have a nut that you have to screw on to secure down the bumpstop i did not use the nut at first and i would get a noise similar to wat you described

put some ultra low pro bumpstops on there, their like 5 bucks a pop from any advanced auto

or if you want, get some BJ spacers... that .5 inch will help and since your not 4wd (right?) it wont kill CVs

im 4wd and have both the spacers and ultra lows, no problems at all... it was the only way to get my chamber within specs... my passenger side CV only slightly binds at full droop

So I'm at my wits end. just got my ride out of the shop. For the most part the knocking noise has subsided. However, we had to lower my front end a bit so now my tires are a microcosim away from rubbing the inside of my fender wells. The overall ride is less bouncy than before which is good but there's still some creaking noises in the front end. I'm told that because these bushings are more of a plastic than rubber they need to break in, which I always forget so I'm hoping as the truck settles more over the next couple of weeks that it will break itself in. It's only going to be like this for the next 2 months then I'll go to the shock hoops and coilovers. My truck sits more level now than it did before I cranked up the T bars.

they were cranked almost 2" when the in stall was done, mistake? No, did not re index after install but they did back them off yesterday. I'm fairly sure it just needs to be broken in and settle, I'll wait untill colorado to upgrade again. I wont be offroading with it untill thats done.

I had the same problem that you did. My shop cranked them till they were sitting on the bumpstops. After a month of putting up with that i took it back and told them to put it back down off the bumpstops. Well the dumb-dicks put it ALL the way back down(pretty much to stock). And im tired of dealing with them. Im just going to reindex them myself here in a couple days.
But as i said, you may have to reindex the torsion bars to get the desired ride height and not have a stiff *** ride.
