Axle Vent

Hey Guys -

I just drained my axle to install a Titan Diff Cover. When I removed the fill plug there was a definite pressure release, letting air out; sort of a whoosh (which was definitely heard above the insanely pumping Death Magnetic). I ASSuME this is not normal?! I was going to do the vent mod at some point anyway, but does this mean the stock vent is not working? I've only got 1500 miles on this baby.

it means your stock vent is pluged (or even its craped out) or just nissain installed a crappy part...

Yeah, it seemed to me that a virgin axle vent shouldn't behave that way. Maybe that's why a few M226 axles have been blowing up?

some of the m226 came from the factory with out a vent , they just plugged it , check on the passenger side of the axle between the diff and the wheel on the top there should be a little cap id take the cap off and do the vent mod if there is no cap and just a square looking piece sticking up your plugged and need to buy the vent

There is a little silver vent cap on there and it's clean, on the outside at least. Maybe there's a preset that it will build up pressure before release? Doesn't seem right though. I guess the vent mod will be next on my list.

No. It will get clogged and build up positive pressure.

Or it will vent when hot and build a negative pressure after cooling. (It's a 1-way valve).

Just make sure you actually read the entier thread and not just the first post becasue it is wrong.

You can not just use a standard barb fitting like it states, well, you can but it would be wrong.

Order this: #9040451026 from your local Toyota dealer and it will work perfectly. It only costs ~4 bucks and you don't have to worry about grinding down threads or anything like that.

I went to the links mentioned in posts 13,14, & 15. Here's a bit of an update for you. After reading all of those posts, there was mention of the toyota part, BUT I also found a link to a toyota board that mentioned a NISSAN part for their axles.

I looked on courtesy nissan and sure enough, it's a valid number.

I cannot say for 100% certainty that this is the correct part. Hopefully someone will come along that knows for sure.

Anyway, nissan part # = 38323-C6010.

Does this mod apply to the 200 axle also?
