Have read the threads on the axle vent issue. I think this applies to my 2010 le as well though I don't know what specific axle I have. I base this on the ton of rtv that is applied on every seal on the differential.

I have two questions (I am assuming the fix applies to me):
1. Does the Toyota part number I've seen used work on my axle or is there a different one I should be using? I assume this is the threaded nipple that has a hose barb on one end and threads into the axle where the esisting vent goes.
2. Is there a master table or part guide to find out what specific equipment is installed on my truck? I have such a thing for my jeep which makes finding replacement and swapable parts easy. For the jeep, there are design cues, cast markers, or stamped markers on the main components.

Thanks

I simply used the same piece that's installed in the axle already and put a piece of hose on it and clamped it down.
Exactly, I never understand why people insist on buying something the truck already has. Just pry the cap off from the axle vent and fit the hose over it. All you have to buy is the hose and filter.

^Figure, if you pop the "cap" off you can just clamp a tube to it.

*IDR... but, there's Nissan one with the correct threads... I have one.

Thanks. Sorry for my ignorance, but I thought part of the problem was the original piece on the axle. That is, it doesn't open/close properly to allow for equalizing pressure changes due to heating/cooling. Did I miss something?

It won't open and close properly if too much debris has made it's way into there already is how I understand it.
Hence this diff. vent mod.
Couldn't you just unscrew and clean the existing part out if debris has already gotten in?

what it is is a little piece of plastic that is under the cap that is supposed to allow pressure to escape and then seal back up if anything try's to come back in and it doesn't work.

This is kind of my point. If it fails, it doesn't do any good staying there after the fix. Unless the reason it fails is because of dirt and not a design flaw. Is it a dirt thing?

38323-C6010 or 38323-C601A(it's one of the two, I think the later) is the Nissan part number for the piece that fits, should be able to get it from a dealer

Here's a write up from a guy on our NWFrontier site who used the nissan part, the last picture shows it

The whole design is a fail to begin with because they are thinking that this little tiny plastic disk that is floating around in a metal cap will keep all the bad stuff out and still let excess pressure inside the axle to vent. When you take the cap off, pitch it and the disk in the trash and just connect a hose to the fitting and run it up behind the taillight if you wheel or just up to the frame if you don't.

It could be dirt that causes the disk not to seal or really anything.
