I'ts VERY cold today in Oklahoma - around 1-2F, windchill around -11F...

So, this morning I start my truck up...I have around 300 miles on the odometer.

I pull out of my drive way and head down the road. I noticed that it slipped between 1st and 2nd gear when I pull out from my side-street onto an arterial. It did it again at the 4 way stop 1-mile down further, and again at the stoplight 1 mile further. I have one additional light before the highway, but I don't remember if it slipped then or not.

All times it was between 1st and 2nd gear. The other gears shifted normally...

Maybe it wasn't slip, maybe it was just sluggish shifting, because it basically felt like the engine became somewhat disengauged for a second or two, then the shift occurred, it wasn't gradual like a true slip....


Anyone else have this happen to them, or, should I take this up with the dealer?

Just a quick question, cause I know this was an issue with mine.
When you were shifting from 1st into 2nd, did you let up on the gas a bit, and then give it a bit of a boot?
I drove test drove 4 Frontiers in the same day, before I purchased mine, and they all did the same thing, and I couldnt figure it out, it kinda kicks out of gear if you do that or feels like a major slip.
For whatever reason the ECM, or perhaps the Transmission computer, or whatever, learns how you drive. It took about 500 miles before mine stopped doing this, and now things are just fine.

I didn't think I did anything like that, after the first time it slipped/slug-shifted, I made a point to keep the throttle steady and just listened.

But, given that someone else at least experienced it...I'll give it a bit...maybe it'll shake itself out...

It's supposed to be cold tomorrow too, looks like I have a reason to get up early instead of sleeping in...just to drive my truck and see if it does it again...(though it could do it after work today too, since it's not supposed to get much warmer)

Mine did it a couple of times at any temperature until it kinda learned how i drove. I still dont know how these systems "learn".. thats far beyond me .. but they do. I would definately give it a few more weeks or so, to see if any of the issues that your having just don't dissappear 'cause your truck is so new.

Slip to me would mean that your RPMs increased but your speed did not.
What you are describing is more of a hesitation between 1st and 2nd right?

Like D-mo said the truck learns how you drive.
I wouldn't worry about it unless it gets worse or something actually breaks.
It's probably how it was designed.

Thanks guys...

I came from a very old, very reliable, and very predictable truck...so, having something this new I'm having to go through "shake down" with it and having to learn what this truck is about.

That said, I have a 370z and it didn't give me any fits (bought it with 52 on the odometer)...which is odd since from what I've heard most first-model-year Nissan's tend to have fits...but that car just kicks all kinds of...I can't wait until the roads get nice again ;)
