Is it possible to swap the manual for the auto or the auto for the manual? I have no plans of doing this, so don't anybody get their hopes up of me doing a build thread, sorry. :( I was just wondering if anybody has done this or if it is even possible.

no have not done it,its easier to go from manual to auto with some miner mods convert to flex plate/tork converter and some interior mods plastic consoul and then there would be electronics reverse wires neautral safty.
then some possable ecu connections, these trannys are controlled by computer? unless that could be done by a vaccume like the older style.
anyone like to chime in on this think i covered it pretty good

Auto to Manual, or Manual to Auto. Has it been done?

My previous Frontier was an SE V-6 w/ a 6 Speed. I put over 130,000 wonderful miles on that truck and I miss it. That 6 speed was flawless. This spring when it came time to replace my '05, I could not find a '10 SE w/ a 6 speed in the upper midwest. We (my dealer) searched the country for 2 months trying to find a dealer that had one- and when we found 2 of them, the dealers in TX and TN wanted to dump other crap on my dealer just to get the trade done. We could have ordered a new SE 6 speed, but I wanted to take advantage of the financing options that were being offered at that time (March) and a special order would take roughly 3 months. Of course Nissan extended the special financing- but we didn't know that at the time.

I ended up buying a '10 Pro-4X w/ an automatic. Even though it is a great truck, the only thing that would make it better for me would be if it had a 6 speed. So, I have an interest in hearing how tough this project would be as well. Who knows, maybe I will find someone close that will do a swap with me?

My concerns are the same- I know there are ECU issues involved, and alot of sensors that will complicate this project. I suspect just the parts to add the clutch alone would be an issue....

I wonder what the cost would be at a transmission shop to get this done?

Anyone have any thoughts?

I once swapped a 5 speed into my GMC S-15 in place of a auto. The way i did it was to find a donor truck that was a manual. I found it in a salvage yard. It had low miles and was complete, the engine was just shot. The salvage yard towed the truck to my place for a small fee and I parked it side by side with my truck. I then proceeded to take pics of everything and made notes. I then swapped piece for piece, removing the parts I needed from the donor truck. Everything went very smooth. This ensured that I had all of the "small" detail pieces that sometimes get overlooked and cause one to make 100 trips to the parts store. I took all of the parts that I removed and threw them into the bed of the donor truck and when I was done, I just called the salvage yard and they came and picked up the truck and hauled it off. All of that to say this, find you complete donor. It is much easier.

I know that a switch can be done in general, I meant can it be done on a frontier.

sure it can, just takes time
And MONEY! I think most people don't even consider doing it because by the time everything is said and done time/money/stress wise you might as well have gone and just bought a vehicle with the configuration you are looking for. This has been discussed many times on many forums trust me....I owned 3 jeeps before this frontier....

Nobody has completed or even tried this mod on a 2nd gen yet (I am talking OEM parts only).

I know the ECU and the TCM talk to each other so you will have to dig thru the wiring diagrams in the FSM to figure out what other parts need to be changed.

You may get lucky and find that the wiring for both the auto and manual are the same or they run a few extra wires for the autos and you can just eliminate.

I believe Shiner was looking into this a year ago or so. He may have more info if you PM him. I also want to say that the clutch pedal mounting is already set on the firewall so that will be a little easier, lol.
